Weather
Why do Fairhope residents who want weather notifications now only get them for places like Wilmer, Semmes, Gonzalez, Molino, Pace, Bay Minette, Gulf Shores, Lillian, Robertsdale, etc… basically, for everywhere *except* Fairhope?
I am sorry if people in those places are having damaging hail, but I also need to know if my house that is in none of those places will be experiencing those conditions.
Response from developer
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and provide feedback on our app. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the recent update and the change in weather notifications. We understand your concern about receiving notifications for areas that are not relevant to you, such as Wilmer, Semmes, Gonzalez, Molino, Pace, Bay Minette, Gulf Shores, Lillian, Robertsdale, etc., while not receiving updates specifically for Fairhope. We strive to provide accurate and timely information to our users, and we value your feedback in helping us improve our services.
Why?
Cry wolf, much?
It ports EVERY SINGLE WEATHER WATCH/WARNING from the local National Weather Service (NWS) office, meaning we are constantly getting weather reports for places a good 50 and more miles away. This setting is really going to drive users either away from the app or into ignoring weather warnings that actually apply to this city. The former issue the city doesn’t want, and the latter one could be dangerous. For example, I’ve received 5 or more warnings about a flood on a river that doesn’t flow past here, in the last 24 hours, including two just 2 minutes apart. You really think something horrible is happening nearby, but then it turns out not to be very nearby, and it’s just a distraction in your day. I hope either the developer or whoever has turned this on can tweak that setting to have some human oversight before people turn off notifications or stop using the app.
