Best off road app you can get

I’ve used all the off road apps and this one by far is the most user friendly and most informative! It highlights trails and follows you’re movements even in off line mode with downloading each states maps. It’s very clear on obstacles and water crossings, as well as cool insight for camping spots or property you shouldn’t be on. Great up to date photos and descriptions of the trails that really help you to navigate trails and areas! I highly recommend this app

Thank you for using our app! It means a lot to know people are using Trails Offroad to find their next adventure!

Easy To Use, Great Info

I used this app for the first time today in an area with a complex system of trails. Had my phone on a dashboard mount and had the app open showing our location all along the drive. Referred o it many times to check where we were. Worked great.

Also very easy to filter for trails that suit your preferences. And the trail guides provide so much more info. It’s not just an automated map but a trail guide that is kept up to date very cool.

Invaluable tool, poor UX

Such a great app for off-roading. Incredible information. Suffers from a number of bugs/poor UX. Downloaded map areas perpetually say “Update Available,” but when you tap to update, it will briefly switch do a progress bar before again displaying “Update Available.” You can keep tapping and it will eventually say “Downloaded,” but you can still tap it and it will continue downloading and showing a progress bar. Did the offline content actually get updated? I have no idea. The CarPlay app struggles to follow your position. Why do you have to tell it to center to your position any time you do anything? You have to tap the arrow to center the map on your location. Then you have to manually select which trail you’re on (it should do this automatically). Then you have to tap the arrow again to get the app to follow as you drive. Is there no way to have CarPlay auto center on your location? I have to go through this rigamarole every time I unplug my phone from the car (which is often for photos). Tapping “Search for Trails” brings up the search function, but you have to tap the search bar again to actually search. It should pull up the keyboard soon as you tap the first time. Why is there no search filter on the app as there is online?

Thank you for your review and such detailed feedback! I can understand the disconnect/reconnect problem, the way you describe it makes sense. We will work on streamlining these functions to make it a more seamless experience.

Great app, one additional feature would be great

I use this app with GAIA for off road trips to find new trails or to give friend a sense of a trail difficulty and it is great for that!

One request I have would be to be able to filter trails that you have favorited. Often I research trails in advance and save them, but I haven’t found a way to see those all on the map. This would be great so that if I’m in an area I could check the favorited maps in that area to see if one I’m interested in is near. A map filter for favorites would make this so much easier! Or even if the favorites maps showed a little different graphically

It’s great that you can download trails straight to the GAIA app for import and use when you do not have service.

You can also download the basic trail info for offline use directly in this app, but photos do not show offline unless they are in your cache.

Only 4 trails in Canada

This app would be so great if it worked in Canada! I see the development team responding to these Canada comments but not much is being done. It’s not that hard to reach out to some Jeep clubs on Facebook to find more trails! I live in New Brunswick which has some huge Jeep groups, one of them being “pirate off road nation” I’m sure they would be glad to help

Great app!

I love this app! It’s like AllTrails for off roading but more accurate. 😂 I have friends who have various vehicles, not all modded, so the recommended vehicle section is very helpful in finding suitable trails for them. The app gives you a lot of useful information to help select the right trail but also to navigate while on it. The waypoints are helpful for various things besides just navigating, like determining a good camping or lunch spot but also in finding out information about stuff along the trail you might have missed otherwise. The user reviews that can be added to each trail along with user rating on the accuracy of the trail rating is very helpful, especially as the weather can alter the trail / difficulty. There are additional features I like as well but overall, I'm a big fan of what they've done!

Great app, even better people

If you are looking for an off-road mapping app that is complete with detailed descriptions, photos, and user input, this is it. Not only that, but the Trails Offroad team is constantly adding more trails and provides updates on seasonal openings and closures, etc. Behind the scenes, they advocate for keeping trails open and protecting our ability to keep enjoying the sports we all love. I don’t think you can really ask for more than to have a great product AND people that care about the offroad community.

Fantastic Trail Guides!

The trail guides are very detailed and useful. While on a trail, it’s nice to be able to get an idea of what turn I need to make next and what to prepare for down the road. In addition, the trail reviews left by both the employees and other users are super useful for gaging the trail conditions on trails that change frequently due to weather.

Great for finding information about trails!

This one is the most through for finding info about trails and getting directions. As they document more trails it gets better! Sand Hollow and Colorado trails are awesome and I love seeing pictures of what to expect with an accurate rating.

This App Could Cost Your Life

I’ve been a paid subscriber for years just because the maps and trails are great for research before going out. But DO NOT rely on this app in offline situations; it will leave you stranded without direction in the middle of nowhere, even if you update the app and download the offline maps immediately before going out. This has been a problem for years, and the developers do not care about leaving you stranded. Fine for research but make sure you have two or three trustworthy back up navigation options for offline, because this app does not work offline.
