Reviews of UD Mobile

  • Great App

So much better then mobilinc or any other app. So nice to have a native app for universal devices!
  • Horrible

I have tried this app every year since it was created, and every year I go back to MobiLinc.
  • A work in progress starting from scratch

I like that there is an app in which I can program (vs the ISY).

However, we need a way to select colors other the a hex number assignment. I don’t even get shown the values of the preassigned colors in order to fix my erroneous attempts to assign back to whatever the originals were (ended up clearing the entire UD setup and reassigning just to get my original colors, all uniform again – and not the ones I wanted. Can we perhaps pick from a color wheel instead of punting hex values? Very clunky that.

Many of my programs are temperature or light intensity based. And yes that means zwave. The majority of my sensors report that UD is unable to read their values and I am forced back to the ISY (with a zwave card in it) to manipulate anyway. So it appears to only work with Insteon switches and dimmers?

I really liked Orchestrated Mobile Link’s approach to device icons more than UD’s. I can much easier pick from lamp style and device shaped icons vs someone’s idea of the purpose of the light or switch as an icon. IE: coachlight, hanging light, chandelier, simple ceiling, simple porch, basic lamp, torchiere, bathroom row, kitchen soffit row, sun lamp, heater, bollard, ceiling fan, table fan, motor, etc. And UD’s selections in that area are lacking. The latest release of UD expands on the purpose based icons where I must interpret the icon designers meaning IE a fork and a knife meaning dining room?. Fine for a simple room with one light in it but fails to describe a room that has a table light and/sconces in it also. What about our living rooms with multiple lights. We already have a word underneath the icon. Expand if you wish, but please develop the fixture shaped icons also.
    •••••
I also liked in Orchestrated MobiLinc the fact that I just click a button in the settings of the device to make that device a favorite (the dashboard). In UD I have to completely design a favorite from scratch! This is a button pushing time consuming and frustratingly complex process.

I know this application is in it’s infancy, but these topics should be addressed advancing from programs that already exist in the home automation control space. It seems that UD is trying to reinvent the wheel from scratch. It’s pretty clunky at this point. But hoping it gets better!
