  • Very easy to use

The app is very easy to use and has so many languages to learn. I enjoy it very much
  • Good for vocabulary building, but sketchy on gendered verbs

For my purposes, as someone who knows a bit of Russian already, I am really loving this app for vocabulary building! So please don’t take offense at the long critique I have to give for the sake of pure beginners.

However, there is something very important for Russian grammar that hasn’t been accounted for: past-tense verbs have a gender, not just nouns. This leads to the following key situations that need to be addressed so less experienced learners don’t get tripped up. I am noting them here because reporting every instance of these in app would be prohibitive since it happens with such great frequency.

First, the male and female speakers should not speak of themselves with opposite-gender verbs. As a woman, I say, “Я была,” for example, not “был.” This sort of thing needs to be reflected by your voice samples.

Second, a feature needs to be introduced allowing the user to select which grammatical gender they want to be held to when speaking of themselves. As a woman I should be marked wrong if I describe myself with masculine words and marked correct for describing myself in the feminine, and should NOT be marked wrong for these feminine grammatical choices. Especially for the ladies, we need to build the correct grammatical habits early so we don’t sound uneducated the instant the first sentence comes out.

Next, when referring to “you,” there’s a lot of work to be done there too. “Ты был” and “Ты была” are both acceptable, but depend on if I’m speaking to a man or woman respectively. These situations need to be clearly taught as currently the app would lead a new learner to think that masculine verbs can be used on anyone in the second person and they can’t.

Finally, bless y’all’s hearts, but with “Вы”…we need to acknowledge that this isn’t just the Russian word for “y’all.” 🤣 It’s also a formal singular too. This usage isn’t taught at all, and not addressing someone in a position of power this way might seem offensive. Children should usually address teachers and other adults outside their family as “Вы” and there are situations where adults should know how to do it too. And when you do use it on a single person, the gender rules I noted above for “ты” apply.

I know this sounds like a lot of complaining but the app IS working fine for my purposes as a more intermediate learner. I just think for Russian, at least (have not tried the other languages), these issues are a significant problem for beginners who have no clue about these major points.

  • So far so good!

Just getting started, but I am liking this app so far.
  • Fun learning

It feels more like I’m playing a game rather than learning a language, yet I am learning at the same time because I know quite a few words now.
  • It’s good if you wanna pay

I see this as a great app don’t get me wrong but for people who are doing this for free won’t be as effective because of only having 10 mins a day and not access to all the lessons but otherwise if you are willing to pay I see this as a amazing app to learn different language really recommend it

Thank you for your review and for your kind words. If you finish a course in a category the next course in that category unlocks for free. We will however be unlocking more courses for free from the start and adding more free time per day in our next update. All the best!
  • Cool app

Love it !! It’s has more langage for French speakers than any other app I know!
  • Fantastic language app!

Great app!! The price is very affordable considering you get all languages. The structure is great and the sentences are actually all practical and usable from the get go (unlike Duolingo). I like how they have both the male/female voices on each sentence. The way it is structured has helped me pick up on patterns in sentences. Finally, the customer service is great! Markus was quick to email and had my problem sorted the same day. Can’t wait to see how this app progresses!

  • Wow! How did I not know about this?

I found the app through Facebook advertising. I have been using Duolingo to learn Finnish, but the course there is not completely finished and has some major issues, too. I can’t believe how amazing the Finnish course on OkyDoky seems, compared to Duolingo. It seems a lot more in-depth and it’s all very engaging. Definitely will stick with this. It’s a cheaper subscription, too!

  • I love this app! Awesome!!

This is a great app. It was easy to learn to navigate, has very clear male and female native voices, and progressively introduces content at just the right pace.

I've been using different language apps for years, from Duolingo to Rosetta Stone, but this app has quickly become my favorite. It has an excellent selection of languages, and allows you to follow your own path or a suggested progressive path to learning. Love it!

I even had a question about my account, which was answered promptly, courteously, and with service which more than surpassed my expectations (and I have high expectations)!

I was even impressed by the cost of the app. The first month is discounted so you can get a feel for the app, but I quickly made my decision that I'd keep subscribing. Even the lifetime subscription is much less than the other apps - but this app is much much better. Well worth the cost and it keeps me rolling in language learning fun for hours.

I can't say enough! Love it!

  • Your level

What happens when you are not a beginner in that language and you want to learn advanced vocabulary? It’s a bit frustrating to start from the beginning.
