What do you get when a birth educator / doula and an Apple Design Award Winning Developer partner up? The Birthsmarter Contraction Timer. The Birthsmarter Contraction Timer takes the guesswork out of timing contractions. WHAT YOU GET: A beautiful, easy to use, smart timer for confidence and peace-of-mind A visual reminder for rhythmic breathing during surges (hypnobirthing friendly) A detailed list of your previous contraction times and last hour average The option to hide the timing and clock in order to minimize distractions Ability to share your average pattern via text or email EASY TO USE: Our touch-anywhere start / stop function allows you to time without fumbling to hit the right button and the timer will not stop if you close the app during contractions (so you can take photos, change the music, and / or call your doctor without concern). SMART TIMER: While you can edit the timing of individual contractions, the app will delete contractions that are less than 15 seconds and last more than 2.5 minutes in case real-life prevents you from tapping the screen. WARNING: Even though this app is beautiful, and might feel soothing to watch, we do not encourage you to time all of your contractions in labor! Best practice is to time contractions for 45 minutes or 1-hour at a time to get a sense of your pattern, and then again when you feel something has changed. Also, information collected in this App should not be considered medical advice nor should there be an assumption of a doctor-patient relationship. THE SCIENCE: The uterus is a muscular organ which contracts throughout labor to help push a baby down and out and pull the cervix (the bottom of the uterus) up and out of the way. The uterus contracts in labor when a body releases Oxytocin: our love, trust, and bonding hormone. The more oxytocin we produce, the more efficiently the uterus can work, making labor faster. It can be easy to think that all contraction timing apps are the same, however to maximize your positive birth experience, we’ve created this app to minimize stress and distractions to allow you to focus on the task at hand. We can’t say that using this app will shorten your labor, but… physiologically speaking it’s worth considering WHAT YOU DON’T GET: Big red boxes or scary countdown timers Condescending color patterns, graphics, or music Generic advice that has no basis in your lived experience Confusing information, graphs, ads, or icons distracting you During labor, coping with surges or contractions is the most important thing. While bells and whistles are fun in video games, we created the Birthsmarter Contraction Timer with an eye toward details that we hope will improve your overall labor experience. This app is not intended to be used as a replacement for medical advice. Use the data you collect in partnership with your medical team.

Reviews of Birthsmarter Contraction Timer

Bare bones but perfect

When you’re tracking your contractions, you don’t want a bunch of fuss and extras. I just need to click start and stop and then get a basic summary about what’s going on. This app does just that and does it well. I also love that they’re not asking for any of my information. It’s literally just here to do it’s job. I wish more pregnancy apps were like this.
