We're ready to share a big summer update with lots of exciting new features and improvements. 2.4 has been in the works for quite a while and we're excited to share it with everyone. GIFS IN DIRECT MESSAGES Express yourself just the way you want to with GIFs in direct messages. Just tap the "GIF" button in the message composer bar and choose a GIF to send. *insert "Aw Yeah kid" GIF* PHOTOS IN DIRECT MESSAGES Share a photo directly from your Camera Roll with your friend in a direct message. Just tap the little photo button in the message composer bar and choose a photo to send from your library. This feature also supports Sensitive Content warnings, so if your device or iCloud account is configured to hide sensitive content, you'll be protected in nenos chats as well. "MADE WITH AI" IN POSTS As AI generated content becomes increasingly common, we're providing you with tools to optionally disclose when something you post was made with AI. You can choose from a variety of "levels" to let your followers know whether the entire photo was generated with AI, if it was edited with AI, or if there was no AI involved at all. There's no penalty for disclosing the use of AI. On posts that disclose this, you'll see a "Made with AI" or "Altered with AI" indicator next to the content and viewers will be able to tap to learn more. FEED IMPROVEMENTS We've been hard at work to make the feed load faster and feel more responsive. Your "now" feed should load much more quickly with this update, even on fast internet connections! UPLOAD IMPROVEMENTS When you upload a post you'll now go directly to your feed where you'll see upload progress and get updates on whether or not your upload succeeded. If it failed, you'll be able to find out why. And, if it succeeded, you can tap to refresh your feed! OTHER DESIGN TWEAKS & FIXES This update also contains a LOT of bug fixes for all sorts of issues you may have come across. Plus, our design language should be more consistent throughout the app. We've also updated the Settings screen to prepare for some upcoming features. --- We've recently welcomed a number of new software engineer and beta tester volunteers to our team. This is a small, but mighty update with a few bug fixes and small improvements. We'll be back soon with lots more! CAMERA FIXES "Hey! I'm trying to take a photo here!" is what you might have said when the app crashed while you were, well, trying to take a photo. This update, thanks to Priya's hard work, should resolve those camera-related crashes. Now you can get back to capturing the perfect shot. DIRECT MESSAGES By default, nenos doesn't require or ask you for push notification permissions. This has the unfortunate side-effect of not notifying you when someone sends you a message… and we think it's nice to know when someone sends you a message! If you've started a conversation with someone but don't have notifications enabled, this update will show a nice little blue and purple banner at the bottom of your chats to enable notifications. --- This is a small but mighty update. This update includes more bug fixes and interface improvements. WELCOME We tweaked lots of tiny little issues with spacing and padding and fonts that you see in the welcome screens. If you're already using the app, you probably won't see these again... but just know that next time you invite a friend to join you, they'll enjoy an ever-so-slightly warmer welcome :) POST LOCATIONS Ahoy! We heard that adding a location to a post wasn't working... and even when it was, locations were just vanishing after uploading. So, we packed our telescopes, unfurled our sails, and took to the oceans in search of all those lost post locations. Turns out it was just a bug, and we really didn't need to do all that. The bug is now fixed and you can attach locations to your posts again. DIRECT MESSAGES We've all been there: you accidentally sent a message you didn't mean to. Maybe it was just a typo, or perhaps something more serious, like your grandma's secret pasta sauce recipe? Either way, rest assured, because you can now delete messages. Just tap and hold on a message you sent and then select "Delete". Once deleted, we'll do our best to remove the message from the recipient's device so all they'll see is "Your friend deleted a chat." When searching for a contact to chat with, you'll now see profile photos in search results. Now you can be sure you're starting a conversation with the right person. CACHING We've temporarily disabled caching in this update. Load times may now be slightly longer, but this should resolve a large number of bugs seen across the app. FINAL NOTES We’re working hard to fix issues, make improvements, and roll out new features. This update includes lots of bug fixes, interface improvements, and accessibility enhancements. PHOTO EDITING We fixed a whole slew of bugs with the photo editor. It should be faster and more responsive than ever. You’ll enjoy significantly improved saturation, brightness, contrast, and white balance controls. When you tap “Edit” on a photo, the editor will open before you’ve had time to blink, and then we’ll load in filters as you need them. In technical terms, we’re loading filters asynchronously now. Woo! Edit sliders like brightness and saturation didn’t have their own space to properly shine alongside the other controls. We gave them their own boxes to show up in. They’re much happier now… and easier to see. You’ll never know how you edited your photos without good haptic feedback! Photo editor animations are now much smoother and have improved haptic feedback. It really is the small things. Sometimes when writing a caption, it would just — poof — disappear. We chased down those disappearing captions, and politely asked them to knock it off. Post locations weren’t getting added to posts, even after you’d selected them. We pulled out a map, followed the trail to all those missing “X”s, and dug up the treasure. Locations should now get properly added to your posts. And importantly, this update includes significant accessibility improvements (esp. for sliders and buttons). Customers who use Voice Over, Assistive Touch, and Rotor Control should now be able to edit photos easily and reliably. It’s important to us that we get this right, so any feedback is welcome. CREATE SCREEN The photo thumbnail button on the camera bottom bar was not properly sliding over to the Photos view. We taught it some new choreography, and it seems to be picking it up well. Added deep linking support for the camera and prose editor. This lays the groundwork for exciting new features we’ll be sharing over the next few updates (think: widgets and shortcuts). DIRECT MESSAGES We fixed a crash that occurred for some customers when loading conversations where you were the only participant. Opening or starting a conversation from someone’s profile sometimes failed to load the existing messages or send a new one. That’s fixed now. Removed the “leave conversation” option for conversations with only two participants. If you need to leave a direct message with someone, you’ll need to block them. SIGN IN & SIGN UP Fixed an issue where customers with existing authentication credentials, but who have not setup a profile were prevented from signing up. In other words: if you at some point started to sign up, but didn’t finish doing so… you can now do so! Sometimes, if you tried to sign out, it may have looked like you were still signed in (even if you really had signed out). That’s fixed now. We’ve also added much clearer alerts to let you know when sign out worked (or when it didn’t). When creating a new profile, you may have missed getting prompted for notification permissions in some cases. Now you’ll see an additional screen during onboarding about setting up notifications. FINAL NOTES We’re working hard to fix issues, make improvements, and roll out new features. You’ll start seeing updates more often as we ramp up our efforts, so stay tuned. Only everything! We've rewritten and restructured large parts of the app and we're proud to introduce: PROSE (TEXT) POSTS Share an idea, a thought, a quip, or just what's going on. DIRECT MESSAGING Start a conversation with one of your mutuals, or reach out to make a new friend. You'll receive communication notifications when someone messages you. We've got so much more coming soon, but we're excited to share this first iteration with you. UPDATED CREATE TOOLS The photo and camera creation experience has been entirely re-designed. Tap on the create tab to launch directly into the camera. Swipe to the left to choose a photo from your library. Swipe to the right to type up a text post. We've added new filters and editing controls for photos too. And, you'll be able to mention others when writing a prose post or captioning one of your photos. REFRESHED PROFILES To support our new post type -- written posts -- we've refreshed profiles. You'll now see content split out by media type: either photos or prose. You'll also notice improved privacy controls and new settings to manage and edit your profile. We've got so much more planned and can't wait to share it with you. Spring is in the air — and so are updates! This release includes redesigned profile headers, easier access to direct messaging, better post creation tools, and (finally) personalized feeds. PROFILE DESIGN REFRESH Your profile photo has never looked better, because now it's shown big and bold next to your name, pronouns, bio and tag. Starting today, you can view and manage who you're following. And, you'll now be able to DM your mutuals directly from their profile (instead of heading into the messages screen). You also have more control over what's shown on your profile; optionally hide your tags and pronouns at any time. PERSONALIZED FEED We're beginning to roll out personalized feeds in this update. You'll soon see posts only from people you follow, in chronological order. To continue seeing posts from others you may know, make sure to give them a follow! NEW CREATE TOOLS Jump right into the camera when you tap on the "Create" tab. You'll be able to quickly snap a photo and share it with your friends and family. Drag your finger up or down to zoom in and out. Double tap to flip the camera.  You can now, optionally, add locations to your posts. To add a location, simply select "Location" and search for a nearby place while you're editing your post. Once uploaded, others will be able to see the place you selected and get more information about that place. DATA MANAGEMENT Running low on space? Open "Settings" from your profile and scroll down to "Cache Management." From here you'll be able to see how much storage nenos is taking up on your device, as well as set limits on how much storage nenos should use. And, if you need to clear things out, choose "Reset Cache" to free up some space. BUG FIXES As always, we're hard at work squishing bugs (just the digital kind, though) to make your experience as delightful as possible. You'll also notice improved performance on many screens including profiles and your feed. Thank you for your support. Hey there! This update brings a few fancy features (how about that alliteration! eh?) that have been long requested as well as the usual trove of fixes and improvements. PROFILE EDITING Finally! Phew. Now you can edit your name, bio, tags, and pronouns from your Profile Settings screen. Just tap the little gear icon to get started. And, starting in this update you'll optionally be able to hide your pronouns and tags from your profile. Just flip the "show pronouns / tags" switch and *poof*, away they go! PHOTO DOWNLOAD Nice photo you took there. It'd be a shame if you could never save it to your Photos Library... Well, now you can! Your photos will be automatically saved to your "Recents" album after you post them, but if you loose track of them you can always save the photo again. Just tap that cute lil meatball icon (the three dots) and then tap "Download". Tada! Your photo is saved. BETTER UPLOAD FEEDBACK It's a bit confusing when you upload a new post or profile photo and then nothing happens. Worry no more! Next time you change your profile photo or upload a post, you'll see a banner confirming that everything went smoothly. Or, in the unfortunate event that things don't go quite right, you'll also see a banner telling you that. SMALL IMPROVEMENTS It's the little things that count. Right? This update includes a lovely bundle of bug fixes and tweaks that should make things just that much better. Posts should load faster and look better. Oh! We're back and better than ever in 2.0! This update introduces new features and improvements including notifications, direct messaging, and a brand new welcome process. NOTIFICATIONS We're rolling out notifications to everyone so you can keep up with the latest from your friends and family. Turn on notifications in the new "Updates" tab for alerts on new likes, comments, and followers. DIRECT MESSAGING The DMs are here! You can now send messages from nenos. Get the conversation going with your mutuals or new friends. Our new direct messaging lets you have one on one conversations as well as group convos. Share photos, videos, and GIFs too! For your mental health and safety, chats can be muted or unmuted at any time, you can also report any suspicious characters and block people directly from your chat. WELCOME SETUP Starting with this update you'll be required to have an account to use nenos. If you aren't signed in already, make an account to continue your nenos journey. It's easy to get started. Our new welcome setup helps you get from 0 to 100 in just a minute! OTHER IMPROVEMENTS This update makes your nenos experience more reliable and much smoother. With this update, you'll have access to more tools to manage and modify your profile right inside the app. Additionally, starting in this update, you'll be able to delete your account from within the app as well (as much as we'd hate to see you go, we know how important this is).
