Omnivore User Reviews

Best Reader! Don’t go away!

I’ve been a Pocket and presently, a Matter user. I’ve not been entirely satisfied with either of those. Recently, I came upon Omnivore and it has restored my faith in strong and smart software development hinging on delivering a solid user experience.

I read an email where they said they were joining ElevenLabs. I wish they would maintain and continue developing this app, or at least retain most of the UI design and interactions while grafting the AI voices onto it. I don’t like the Eleven Labs user experience or interface design. It’s not as polished as Omnivore. Crossing my fingers.

Please don’t delete

I have only just had this app about a month and it is perfect, seamless and simple and does exactly what I want it to do. Sadly seen today its being deleted the end of November 24. Such a shame! No other versions of read later apps are as good as this one

Shuttered

Switched to Omnivore just over a year ago due to dissatisfaction with my previous read-it-later app and have been very happy. Now I find that Omnivore is being shut down and my data deleted (although I am being given the opportunity to export my data). Not quite sure if they expect me to use ElevenReader instead which they are heavily promoting but it doesn’t seem like it will meet my needs at all. So now I am on the look out for my third read-it-later app - suggestions anyone?

Was great, now acquired, service terminated

This was a great app but it has been acquired and the service will be terminated on 15th November 2024.

Pretty great

^^

What a great find

I'm thrilled that I found the Omnivore ecosystem. What an oustanding app, free and open source, that can finally replace Pocket and ReadItLater. It does everything they did for me, at least as well, and with remarkable simplicity and ease of use. Beautiful typography. A great iPhone app and a great web experience. Tags and power searching. Phenomenally powerful syncing to Obsidian. And an amazing, and free, text to speech that has me listening to Wikipedia or longreads like they were podcasts. I proselytize Omnivore to everyone I can.

Scrolling inbox still stuttery

Is this ever going to be fixed?!

Simple app with upside

Love the stripped back simplicity of this app. Would love some sort of AI summary tool though - I find this really feature really useful on other apps. Thanks!

The best.

Omnivore's open source development and non-commercial interests make this the most promising user-centered reader app I've come across. Excellent text-to-speech in the iOS version, with development plans to allow self hosted versions of the service, makes this a privacy no-brainer.

The desktop app is not as sophisticated as their web app, but this version includes the needed Safari extension for capturing content into your library.

Great app!

A comprehensive solution I didn’t think could be this good

I never write reviews for apps, but Omnivore really impresses. The flexibility and ability to customize exceeded my expectations of what any read-it-later app may offer. Contrasted against Instapaper and others that charge monthly subscriptions to highlight with fewer features and worse UI, this is a standout from the pack. My only gripe is with web pages that cannot be parsed and imported. It would be great to have a workaround feature to import articles that can’t be parsed.
