Nice and simple, but could use certain features
I like being able to analyze my games and try different variations on difficult positions. This app ALMOST let’s me do that, but there are some features it could really use to help out as a training tool.
1) Allow me to force the board into a specific position. This is great for exploring certain openings.
2) Allow switching sides.
3) Allow saving the board positions.Show lessnageljr

Needs a resign button. Needs to adjust ratings properly for new players. 1500 players don’t give up material as easily as this AI does. Seems a little underpowered at low levels. I like the simple blunder check coaching though. Keep working on it.Underdog323c

Thanks a lot for the feedback. 1.0 just released with the resign option. Engine will offer draw or resign well. For Elo, I believe it’s always relative. At 1500 Elo, Chess Only would be weaker than Shredder, but much stronger than HIARCS. As engine was strengthened a lot in 1.0, Elo strength has to be readjusted. Hope it suits better for you.Review

Nice UX. Good concept of matching engine strength to player strength. But I cannot export PGN of games. Huge negative.
My workaround is to take screenshots of move list and replay hand in another tools that will export PGN.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Though a little late, I’m happy to tell you that just released 1.0 can save game to a pgn file in the document folder of the app. One way to access is using Files app.Easy

Exactly What It Says…
I love the visual simplicity. I get old 90’s PC chess vibes. Wish this had better iPad optimization, but on my phone it looks very clean. I like that you can slowly grow with it, instead of being bullied right out of the gate like Stockfish or some of the other more unforgiving apps. I haven’t played chess in years and this app is a really nice reminder of what made me love it the first time around!Show lessDoomFanatic95

Thanks a lot for the feedback. 90s PC chess vibe is the very right word for what Chess Only is about, as I remember the same in old days. Hope you’re still using Chess Only. 1.0 just released with many improvements. In old days, I wished small chess computer beside the real board. 1.0 has over-the-board mode, which will make iPhone a stunning chess computer in 90s standard.Playing is studying
This is an excellent app with a very clear purpose of playing and studying chess against an engine with little distraction. The progression of the rating as you play each game is a nice way to measure your skill level. The hint is a true hint and not a total give away of the best move. I play games regularly using this app and am very satisfied with it. One added feature I would recommend the developer to consider is the ability to export the moves in PGN format.Show lessBubblesRFL
