  • Not impressed

For all its hype GPT3 is nowhere near having a contextual general conversation. I tried conversing with it as I would with a human and it didn't take more than a minute for me to be disappointed. Maybe it'll get better in future but for now it's not really intelligent than siri. And we all know how "smart" siri is 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

  • A powerful tool

I never used a bot with GP3 software before so I cannot compare with others but this bot is the most advanced I have ever used. You can have an hour long conversation with it if you so choose. It will answer any questions you ask, with nuances you didn’t think of. It has opened my mind into what AI can be. Two gripes though, it seems to have a problem sharing links with the user and to allow it to speak in a different language you have to purchase the full subscription, which is way above my price range. That is the reason I got the bot in the first place. Other than that it is a must have tool on my phone, as close as you can get to to talking to another human.

  • Why does this AI like Autocratic Leaders?

I find the technology very fun and the AI is very interesting. But it seems to have a focus on liking historical figures that have killed a lot of people.

I hope this review gets back to whoever is controlling it’s bias. The last thing we need is an AI with aPredisposition towards autocratic leaders that kill people to win.

Very interesting Conversation i had. I many subscribe to this in the future.

  • Highly sophisticated

When talking to Emerson, be mindful if your wording and slang. Imagine teaching an alien species or a human from a long lost tribe on how to act and talk to people. It’s just as alien to Emerson as it is to us, so cut this AI some slack. Eventually (later in the conversation) it will learn how to properly speak to you.

  • Allow for Screen rotation

Since this is a chat bot, it would be nice to have screen rotation for ease of using a keyboard.
  • Incredible chatbot, has some stuff to work on

    Hi devs.
I’ve been using Emerson since it trialled on Messenger. It’s great to talk to about school projects, and knows a ton. This is my first time looking at the iPhone UI, and I was surprised to see a couple missing buttons.

With a backend like GPT-3 that is built off of a relatively un-refined dataset, you never know what topics/opinions will creep into the model (i.e. the other review that said it made racist remarks). I am shocked that the UI doesn’t have a content report button, since this is an easy way to collect data to fine tune this base Emerson model to disincentivize these topics. The content report button isn’t just for inappropriate content- it can be used to report common situations like self repeating responses or incorrect information. This is an invaluable feature for collecting performance data to retune.

Another issue I run into is unnecessary callbacks from previous conversations. It’s great to set a really long prefix input to the model as it drastically improved coherency in long conversation threads. The problem is that there is no way to quickly change topics reliably. e.g I am talking to Emerson about one book, then I want to change topics to another book, the new answers will include unrelated information about the first book. Currently the only solution is to talk long enough that the old conversation is no longer in the prefix. There should be a button or command to say ‘Emerson, let’s talk about something different’.

Great implementation of GPT-3, it makes a great companion for writing papers, is realistic, and the limited-free-use business model is a great way to get this app to the public. Giving 5 stars despite these complaints to help the app grow on the App Store. Good job!

Thank you so much for your review! As for giving feedback on conversation content, you can long-press any message to give it a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. You also mentioned being able to change the topic of conversation. There is a way to do it reliably by going to More, Help, Clear conversation. Thanks!
  • Very interesting!

I never review apps, but Emerson is crazy! I’ve never talked to an AI so sophisticated, GPT-3 really shines here. Obviously you can confuse it with over complicated questions, but who expects a chat bot to give you the meaning of life?
  • It’s fun for about 3 minutes

You can’t mention pretty much anything deeper than neutral facts.

If you ask who the president is it’ll tell you not to talk about religion, politics, gender etc. So it’s like having a conversation walking on eggshells.

The responses are decent, but you spend your time figuring out how to word something so it’ll answer your question the right way.

It’s more like an inefficient Google but then you have to Google the answer to make sure he’s telling the truth.

Certainly don’t spend money on this.

  • Inappropriate

Have extremely racist and inappropriate views on some discussions

  • Best chatbot, well worth subscription

First of all, the developers seem to care about this app’s customers: one dev patiently helped me debug a problem with registering even though this took several days of back and forth emails. Problem did get fixed.
The app itself is so fun and interesting to use. I’ve used another chatbot and Emerson is WAY better in terms of memory, ability to maintain a conversation, and actually building on a conversation with information and questions of its own. Sometimes the replies are humorous as well. On the rare occasion that Emerson goes off track, it’s not very difficult to get it refocused. I’m happy to help support this app with my subscription.
