Description of Trauma Brace

** What is it? ** Brace is a full, end-to-end program for people who are struggling after a trauma. You do not need to have a therapist to use Brace, and you do not need to have an official PTSD diagnosis. Regardless of your trauma type, or whether you are a soldier or civilian, Brace was designed with you in mind. It is based on techniques that have been studied for decades and are proven to help reduce symptoms after a trauma. Brace makes these techniques available in a self-help format by providing instructions, help and tracking as you progress through the exercises and make your way to graduation, which typically takes about 5 sessions per week for 9-12 weeks. In a clinical setting, the majority of PTSD patients who follow these same steps see a significant reduction in symptoms. Brace was developed by a PTSD survivor who wanted to make this knowledge more accessible and affordable for other sufferers. This type of therapy typically costs $7,000+ but full access to Brace is less than 1% of that. Brace will start with an assessment that can help you understand how severe your symptoms are and whether or not the full program might be a good fit. Only once you see your score and complete the free introduction will you be asked to decide if you’d like to pay to continue with the full program. ** Who is it for? ** Brace is for anyone struggling after experiencing something traumatic. Some examples are: - Combat - Assault - Terrorism - Severe accident - Loss of loved one - Abuse - Life-threatening illness - Healthcare maltreatment - Natural disasters …and more If after the trauma you’ve been experiencing some of the following symptoms, you might need help processing what happened: - Nightmares - Insomnia - Flashbacks - Panic attacks - Physiological response (high heart rate, heavy breathing) - Hyper-vigilance, or feeling super alert - Irritability or outbursts - Feeling cut off from people or activities you used to love - Difficulty concentrating - Lack of intimacy - Feeling detached or unable to experience positive emotion - Overwhelming guilt or shame - Self-destructive behaviors …and more Just remember that trauma processing is really hard, and even though it may feel like your life has been upended, your symptoms are inherently temporary. With the right strategies and techniques, PTSD can be beaten, which has been proven by decades of research and the founder’s personal experience overcoming trauma. Hopefully, Brace can teach you how to heal. Just like with traditional therapy, the exercises can be tough, but the more you put in, the more you can get out! --- This is not a healthcare app and it does not provide medical advice. This is a self-help system that can be used to improve wellbeing. Any advice received by a medical professional supersedes anything seen in this app. The app can not provide any official diagnoses as that can only be done by healthcare professionals at this time. ---

  • Not sure what I would be paying for

Hey so, I feel like this app has the potential to be extremely helpful. I think the intro video before asking for payment was a good idea but it doesn’t give enough info for me to judge if it’s worth $20 or not. Perhaps you could go into exactly what kinds of exercises people would be doing or make the first day of activities for free, so people can get a sense of what they’re actually buying. For all I know this could be completely unhelpful. I wouldn’t want to pay for that. It could also be very helpful but $20 is more than I want to take a gamble with.

    Developer Response

Hey there, thanks for reaching out! The app provides evidence-based techniques that have decades of research supporting their efficacy which focus on three main things: 1. Re-familiarization with inherently safe stimuli. When someone has been traumatized, they often associate stimuli that is not inherently dangerous with the event and begin to avoid it. For example, if someone is traumatized in a hotel, they may become avoidant of all hotels in the aftermath, even though hotels are not inherently dangerous. Brace helps users identify and remedy this type of avoidance. 2. Restructuring of unhelpful beliefs. In the aftermath of a trauma, many people tend to feel significant guilt/shame, even blaming themselves for outcomes they could not have prevented/controlled. Brace helps a user become aware of these beliefs and begin to correct them. 3. Processing the memory itself. After a traumatic experience, a desire to avoid the memory of the event itself is common and makes sense. However, avoiding the memory will cause it to resurface in uncontrollable ways such as nightmares or flashbacks. Brace helps users process the memory fully and thereby lessen these symptoms. All of these techniques are based on clinical practices that are provided in therapy today. Because each user’s story, avoidance and stimuli differ based on their experience, the process will be somewhat different for each user, but it will focus on those three elements, using homework assignments that include physical activities as well as recordings and processing work to do so. Hope that helps - we will think about how to make this more clear in a future release! If you have any other questions please feel free to email contact@traumabrace.com.
