Short and sweet

Fairly good value. Didn’t buy passes as we were on a whirlwind tour, Jamestown , Yorktown, Williamsburg. My wife and I shared audio. Each stop on circuit had about 1.2 minutes of info ; some stops had additional 30 secs of info if you were more interested. For the typical tourist , short and sweet; I wanted more, but my wife thought it was adequate as I’m more interested in history than she was

DECEPTIVE App

Very dishonest. Wonder why there’s no price? It’s because you are not downloading and installing an audio tour of Williamsburg. It’s merely a tour selection app. When you open it you have to select which city you want a tour for and pay $7 to get it. I’d rather put that $7 towards a ticket that will help to support the operation of the place. You may be able to get discounted tickets from one of those attraction/tour vendors around town.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry there was confusion about the nature of the app. We use one unified app to house our tour catalog in order to create a more seamless experience for customers who wish to experience multiple tours in different locations. Our tour is indeed separate from the organization which runs Colonial Williamsburg, as we offer a distinct service for those looking to enhance their visit to the living museum.

Not Accessible

Says there’s no internet available to download when there is.

Response from developer

I’m very sorry you encountered this issue. Were you able to contact our 24/7 support team for assistance? Once downloaded, the tour should work with or without internet, which is why we recommend that users download tours in advance.

Worthless app

Total waste of $6.99. Tour would not start unless my location was at the visitor center. Useless if not initiated before entering the actual site.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback! While we do design our tours with a specific starting point in mind, it is possible to manually start from a later point by selecting it on the List view. We do hope you still enjoyed your visit to Colonial Williamsburg!

Literally saved $135

We found enormous value in this tour. It allowed us to walk around the town and learn about the significance of different spots without having to buy the town’s ticket that gets pushed on you at every turn (which is extremely expensive for a group of 3 like ours). I LOVED the flexibility this tour allowed. We actually only saw a portion of Colonial Williamsburg on the first day, and finished up the tour when we passed through again at the end of our trip.

Yay! We're so delighted to know that your whole group enjoyed the tour! The convenience of walking around at your pace is a huge benefit of this self-guided audio. I’m thrilled that we could bring Colonial Williamsburg to life. Thanks again!

Great stories

We did not buy the tickets at the visitor center since they cost $45 per person! We used the App instead and we followed the recommended route on the App. We were not able to go inside some of the buildings that are owned by the visitor center but we got info about all of them from the App. The “period” dressed folks scattered around were happy to talk and answer our questions also. Did not need a ticket to do that!
I am glad we chose to skip the tickets and used the App. It was a lot cheaper and we still got to absorb the atmosphere of the colonial city.

Meh

Hardly used. Better to speak with people in role, take the tours, and whatnot.

I suppose if you’re by yourself and plugged into head phones, and wanted to stare at your device.

I’m also not sure that it’s accurate. For example, app says that Mr. Wythe was an abolitionist while it was clear that he owned slaves (according to the grounds and CW staff).

$7 loss, don’t let it be your loss either.

This self-guided tour saves $45 per person. It’s great for folks who want to explore Colonial Williamsburg without buying a $45 ticket, or don’t have the full day to go inside each historic home. This tour allows you to walk around town while learning about what you’re seeing and why it matters. It’s totally hands-free — the audio pops up based on your location, so there’s no need to constantly stare at the phone! For Wythe’s story, be sure to listen to the Learn More story which talks about how he freed his slaves.
