Description of podo_words

Hello! Korean learners. I’m Danny Park and I teach Korean on italki. As a Korean teacher, my goal is to teach an ability to communicate with native speakers with minimum words. So I teach the words that native speakers use the most often in daily life. This app contains more than 1000 words in 60 topics that native speakers use most frequently and it doesn't use audio read by the machine. I recorded all the audio myself, so you can learn it with a natural native speaker's pronunciation. Have fun learning Korean words with the virtual image and quiz and then review them with flash cards. This app is suitable for beginners and intermediate learners.

  • Add spaced repetition feature

Honestly it’s really good. It’s more convenient than me fighting for my life using Anki mobile or other flash card apps and not having pictures/audio.

This app would be a real game changer if you added a spaced repetition feature and allow users to track their progress.
  • Amazing app, one minor issue

I really like this app! I love the simplicity of the interface and the low cost for unlocking everything. I like the quizzing and spelling portion after every set to test what you know. I also like the feature of hiding words I already know/learned.

There is one thing I wish I had more control over and that would be the review tab. I love the reviewing section, being able to do the quiz and flash cards bit is really fun and engaging. However, having all of these words being given with no control over how many words I can review is a bit taxing. Every time i review a new set of words it gets added to my review list and now I’m at the ability to review almost 100+ words. I personally struggle with long review lists and if I could just cut the amount of words I can review in one setting it would keep my focus more.

If you’re able in a future update, I would love if we had some sort of option to select a way to review a selection of cards in increments of 5 (such as choosing if in could learn 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 cards for reviewing) aside from that everything else with the app I love. I love being able to hear an actual native speaker say the words so I can repeat them back until I get it down. I’m so happy to have this app on ios. I know it’s been available for Android and I’ve been waiting for it to come here. I hope we’ll be able to get the other app soon as well!

Thanks you for giving us Korean learners another medium in which to help better our language skills we seriously appreciate it!

  • Fantastic for learning vocabulary!

I’ve been self-studying Korean for the past year and a bit, mostly through another major language learning app that I personally find moves very quickly, doesn’t help with the basics, and doesn’t help me build my general vocabulary very well. This app provides exactly what I felt I was missing in my language learning by providing category based sets of basic vocabulary. I really enjoy the app’s method of quizzing, particularly the spelling feature at the end of the quiz. Overall, this app is very approachable, useful, and affordable. Highly recommend!
