Price History of ARt Dachau

Description of ARt Dachau

ARt is the short name for the "Dachau Concentration Camp in Drawings and Paintings. Art Meets Augmented Reality" project. The AR in ARt stands for augmented reality. This technology allows us to create a link between drawings and paintings that deal with the history of Dachau Concentration Camp and the actual grounds of the Memorial Site. The app also contains extracts from graphic novels created by the descendants of prisoners and other artists. Audio clips provide additional information. They explain what is depicted in the images – sometimes helped by recollections from other former prisoners. The app-guided tour takes in 22 images in the Memorial Site grounds and lasts about an hour. You can just view specific images instead if you like. To do this, scan the QR codes on the relevant markers. The app features interactive elements. The app is not 100% accessible. The web page kz-gedenkstaette-dachau.de/art provides universal access to the app's content. The images are described here using alternative texts. You should wear headphones to make the audio clips easier to hear. We recommend you download the app onto a smartphone or tablet before your visit to the Memorial Site. You do not need to be connected to the internet to use the app. To use the app, a smartphone or tablet that supports ARCore is required. The app is free to use. ARt was developed by the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site in collaboration with startup company ZAUBAR. The Memorial Site received financial support for this project from the Stiftung Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft (EVZ, Foundation for Remembrance, Responsibility and Future), the Bavarian Sparkassenstiftung Foundation, the Stiftung Bildung & Wissenschaft (Education & Science Foundation) of the Sparkasse Dachau, and the Stiftung Bayerische Gedenkstätten (Bavarian Memorial Sites Foundation). Age rating: 13 and up

  • Poor User Experience

This app is very frustrating to use. First, you must follow the path displayed on your screen or you cannot see the images or listen to the commentary. Second, even if you walk to the correct place, sometimes, the phone location isn’t precise so the app tells you to walk back to the place you just left. You end up in the back-and-forth walking experience when you simply want to see the art and listen to the commentary. I won’t say this app ruined my experience, but I certainly wouldn’t substitute it for an audio guide or tour experience. Both of those will be a far better experience than this frustrating app.
