  • A breath of fresh air

This app is perhaps most valuable to me for all the ways that it encourages PROCESS and CURIOSITY.

A lot of the folks on the app post projects in process, not just polished and finished products. It gives context and encourages me to JUST BEGIN (if I’m stuck) or JUST KEEP GOING (if I’m in the middle of things). Making things with my hands is crucial to my mental health, but its a slow process, and its good to remember its that way for a lot of us. The process matters and is beautiful and valuable in its own right.

There are also opportunities to learn from others, both through formal classes and informal interactions. The classes are easy to access and are generally presented as an INVITATION TO LEARN AND CREATE.

All in all, there is a sense of invitation and welcome. That is certainly a breath of fresh air.

  • Still needs a bit of work but it’s generally great

The app itself is still a little clunky, but the community who run and use it are lovely. It’s a much better place to be than the other platforms, especially if you’re a maker.

My only gripe is that I don’t love the way photos are displayed. They end up being automatically cropped and they just don’t look great on this app.

I’m sure it’s clunkyness will be resolved soon, and I’m very much enjoying the app in general so far.

  • I’ve found my tribe!

Finding making has been a game changer for me. Having a supportive community where I can share what I’m making is so cool. I don’t have to wade through anxiety inducing posts NOT about craft or yawn through streams of adverts! This is the social network / app I’ve been dreaming of since I started crafting! So pleased I can now give the others the flick!

  • Can't try before signup

I'd like to at least see what I'm signing up for before I give over my data but this app requires you to enroll before seeing anything. No option to partially browse as a guest or anything. Useless. Uninstalling.
  • Nice alternative to IG for makers

I’m really enjoying this app, my only quibble is that I really really wish there was a “dark mode” option. I find myself not using it in the evening because all the white space in the layouts feels a bit blinding.
  • Cozy Creative Community

I love love love this app and community! I’m inspired every time I log on — by various makers’ projects, process, and finished objects. It’s my favorite parts of the social media platform I just left. Making is creative pictures and inclusive community without the noise and the mindless scrolling.
  • So fun!

It’s been great to see what all kinds of other makers out there are up to. I do wish you could read the caption for the pictures without having to click on the image. Inspiring nonetheless!
  • Creative community and inspo live here

As a new-ish knitter, Making puts inspiration, project tracking and connecting with a knowledgeable and friendly community in the palm of my hand—can’t imagine creating without it!
  • A great alternative to Instagram

I love this app like many others and love that it is ad-free and run by awesome humans! I love the classes that are integrated into the app, that’s so wonderful. I do find that the majority of makers seem to be knitters right now, which isn’t me so I find a lot of the posts don’t speak to me personally, but maybe that will expand over time. I would love if there was a bit of a caption under the photo shown in the feed to get a sense of what the work is about without having to click on each one. I’m also not clear on who I am seeing in my feed because most of the people I see I don’t follow. I’d love a grid option to see the feed too so it isn’t just one long scroll, but I know they are so new and adding new features all of the time, which is great! Overall, I think it’s a fabulous app for crafters and makers who want to share what they are creating in a light-hearted space.
