Great, but no longer works.

No longer works right on iPadOS 18, it wonโ€™t respond to any key presses until you tap on the page, making it sadly useless. Great app until now, vim key controls are essential for internet browsing with a keyboard! Although the developer says in iPadOS 18.1 the app works fine, I have updated to 18.1 and find that unfortunately the same problems persist.

Response from developer

Thanks for using Vimlike!ย It is an issue of iPadOS 18.0 Safari and it is fixed in iPadOS 18.1 beta. Vimlike works fine with iPadOS 18.1 beta. Please wait for iPadOS 18.1 to be released. iPadOS 18.0 Safari has an issue that the focus does not move to the webpage when the tab is created or activated until the webpage gets the focus manually by the webpage touched / clicked, one of the arrow keys (up, down, left, or right) pressed, or tab key pressed. Hence, shortcuts in websites using keyboard events of the webpage do not work (e.g. gmail shortcuts do not work). As Vimlike uses keyboard events of the webpage, Vimlike only works once the webpage gets the focus manually by the webpage touched / clicked, one of the arrow keys (up, down, left, or right) pressed, or tab key pressed as a workaround. iPadOS 18.1 beta 4 has resolved the problem and Vimlike works fine.

Outstanding

Always a risk writing a review after using an app for less than five minutes, but this is brilliant work and so much care has gone into it (the help screens are lovely, for example, as is the brief red highlighting when clicking links). This seems to run more snappily and reliably on an iPad (mini, 5th gen,, with non-Apple Bluetooth keyboard) than some Safari/Orion etc desktop extensions. Canโ€™t believe it has not received more coverage.

Better than Vimari

Thanks Jasmine. This is a really good app with more key-bindings that Vimari which has stopped development. Feeling luck today that i decided to check if there is anything new around.

Great to hear! Thanks for the comments!

Great extension for iPad + keyboard users

Vimlike extends Safari with keyboard access in the spirit of vimium, and is a fantastic execution of the concept. Being able to navigate web pages, search then for text, and manage tabs using vim-style keys is something I've lacked on iPad and this extension addresses that really well. The ability to customise the keys is very well thought out too.

Thanks for the kind feedback! Happy to hear that!

Cmd + L

Sorry, idk where else to ask but is there a way to simulate the "o" and "O" from other chrome based vim plugins. That's the only thing holding me back from switching to safari.

Response from developer

Hi - thanks for the feedback. At the moment, Vimlike does not support the inline textbox for url and search. So for now, only way is either Command+L for url or "t" to open new tab. I have this feature in the current backlog. And for the issue or suggestion, please send email to support@jasminestudios.net. Thank you!

Scrolling issue is fixed

Thanks to the developer! Very useful app.

Response from developer

Thanks for the comment. Yes there was a problem on scrolling in 1.4.5 and sorry for inconvenience. The hotfix was released in 1.4.6 to fix the scroll issue in iPad. Please download the latest version from AppStore.

Last update is not a bug fix; it's bug injection

Scrolling no longer works on iPadOS. Horrible. Pls fix.

Super responsive and nicely integrated so far!

Awesome experience, just works and seems to be very performant

Works well!

Great implementation of the Vim <--> Safari hookup. This extension is incredibly easy to setup and works fluidly. I especially appreciate the help "?" shortcut to see all list of all navigation macros in case I forgot them.

Some feedback to make this even better:
- link toggling is noticeably slower than seen in Vimium (the chrome extension). if this could be faster it would greatly improve my workflows
- in Vimium, there are shortcuts that allow you to move tabs either left or right. This would be very helpful to have to be able to organize tabs for your workflow.

Overall, great job with this. Love the simplicity and ease of use!
