Reviews of NYU Guided Tour

  • Pretty decent GPS audio tour

We used this when the timing didn't work out for a guided tour. It was actually really informative and worked well enough, although we had to get absurdly close to the locations to trigger the next audio clip. I'd recommend skipping the Wasserman Center, it's super far away from everything else and they talk about it in a later spot anyway.
  • Not good at all

I don’t think I’ve ever left a review on an app before. And it doesn’t matter because its not like there is a competitor app. But hopefully the dev team will consider this stuff. Two things.
One, I had to restart the app between locations in order to have somewhat accurate location data. At one point I over shot a building by like ten blocks because the map was updating wrong. Partially my fault because I should have realized the app was screwy sooner. But even once I realized that, it still happened. I had to restart the app every few minutes to make sure I was in the right place.
Maybe this is a isolated incident but the next part isn’t a bug.

Two, The tour layout couldn’t make less sense. After like the 5th stop it literally feels random. Most of the buildings are in clusters, and are a block or two apart from each other. So it would make sense that you would do those back to back. But nope, you go to one building, walk 4 or five blocks to a different building. Then turn around and walk back to essentially where you just came from.
At least I got 20,000 steps in.
This mobile tour is different from the provided map self guided tour online.
The audio stories were pretty good and informative.
Do a real tour if you can get one.
