Well Designed App
Regarding purpose: I think this app is useful for helping folks develop the ability to distinguish between higher and lower pitches. I also think it can help people who can already do this at a basic level to refine that ability.
Regarding design: The colors are pleasing to the eyes, and the tones are pleasing to the ear. Also the combinations of tones in each round are well thought out. I like to play a little improvisation afterwards, the instrument is smooth and fun to play, and the developer clearly made space for this possibility. Finally, the act of rearranging the shapes on the screen is simple and intuitive.
That said, there are some bugs to work out still. I encountered a level with enharmonic tones that the program didn't allow to be solved. There needs to be a way to reset, and to skip over a level that's not working.

Thanks for such a detailed review, and for noticing the improvisation mode! You also found a real bug: if you moved a tile just after the pieces briefly lined up correctly, the board could freeze. Fixed in 1.12.
