Reviews of Battle Cards

  • Stuck in start screen

  • Interesting Concept but Clunky

I played 20 or so PvP games prior to writing this. I think that’s all I care to try playing. The concept is interesting but the execution is clunky. The movement cooldown makes gameplay feel like it is constantly lagging. I choose where I want to move, in response to my opponent, but with the delay I often see my opponent make a move while I am waiting. Even in that one second delay I can change my mind and it’s 50/50 that I respond in game how I wish. Sometimes I am still moving to my original choice and sometimes I can move to the new location. Items in the game are a total cluster, and I don’t even find myself thinking about what to use. Just button smashing while I am trying to pay attention to movement on the board. I have played a lot of games that this one wants to compete against and I can’t see it winning over many hearts. It’s a niche concept that by design doesn’t flow well in execution.

Edit: I went back and played another set of 20 or so games, my win rate is 67% so I am not writing this review from a bitter perspective. I think I have three actual losses and several draws.

Docking down to 2 stars for truly poor gameplay mechanics. I noticed some games my opponent could start moving while I still had the “battle start” overlay up, and often I couldn’t even start moving right away when that disappeared.
It also became very obvious that most players do not understand what is going on in the game. It is just a random swiping until we bump in to each other and someone (or both players) die.
You cannot tell what the cards in the field are doing, or if they might kill you when you swipe in to them. You cannot tell what your HP is in the game.
All of this because you are constantly swiping on the screen hoping to move where you want while maybe using your items to get stronger or stay alive. You cannot take the time to look at things in the field and evaluate because you will lose out on precious movements while your opponent continues progressing.
I had one game go beyond 30 seconds and actually feel competitive, perhaps that is what the intent of the game was… Decisive moves to get your opponent cornered.Even in that session the gameplay was clunky and that clumsiness is what contributed to the longer game.

Docking to 1 star because your monetization balance is way off, basic chests take way too long to open compared to how long games last and how many games someone will play.

I really enjoyed the other games made by this developer but clearly this game is a miss.
  • Fun!

I’m enjoying it so far, and I hope it continues to be amazing.
