Choose from three themed audio trails positioned along two different popular walking routes through the Heart of England Forest.
Along the 4-mile Founders Trail starting in Dorothy’s Wood car park either learn about the mosaic of habitats in the Forest and the wildlife that lives there, or follow the Forest Story and find out why the Heart of England Forest came to be, its Founder Felix Dennis, and the important work this ambitious charity is undertaking.
At Morgrove Coppice, the audio tour designed to capture the interest of the whole family takes you along a trail of just over a mile and will engage young minds in the surrounding young and mature woodland.
This new native Forest is being created and conserved to benefit the environment, wildlife, and people, and when finished will cover 30,000 acres across the heart of the country. Find out more at heartofenglandforest.org .
The Heart of England Forest audio trails app has been created to enhance time spent in nature and will take you on a journey of discovery through these beautiful woodlands.
Use the GPS-assisted app to follow each trail through the Forest where you will experience varied habitats including different aged woodlands, grasslands, hedgerows, wetlands, and farmland, and learn about the trees and wildlife that call the Forest home.
Highlights to look out for on the trails include Roberts Wood – a mature woodland nearly 100 years old, the sculpture of our founder Felix Dennis, the Forest Arboretum, and the rare wild service tree. Listen to extracts of Felix’s poetry (with kind permission of the Literary Executors of the Felix Dennis Estate) and birdsong as you walk. This app makes use of GPS to show you places of interest close to your current location.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
