Description of CNF Cantonese Romanization

Lingo CNF is a free version of the definitive Cantonese Language Romanization input tool to assist speakers who struggle with keyboard text input and spelling. It can also be used as a great learning tool & dictionary- all contained within this single app on your device- on the go & when you need it- without the need for any type of data or wifi connection!!! The app is completely free of ads and in-app purchases, and works exactly the same as the full version, except has limited functionality due to the app's smaller database of dictionary entries. Lingo CNF's dictionary is limited to approximately 8500 entries, while the full version has approximately 10700 entries. INPUT • Enter Yale, Jyutping or English words using the standard English keyboard. • Lingo uses a simplified style of romanized language input so NO need to enter special diacritical marks, unusual characters, numbers or even proper spacing. • Quickly adopt the technique of sounding out the words you wish by typing as you go, recalling either the Yale or Jyutping spelling, or learning a few special entry shortcuts. CHOOSE • Select the word or phrase you wish from a selectable list that automatically updates and refines your list from each letter you input into the Lingo app. • The Lingo CNF app has a dictionary of 8500 entries to help you find the correct word or phrase CONSTRUCT • Selected elements are transferred to the body of the screen for final inspection. • Construct your own sentences and phrases by stringing together as many separate elements as you like. • Lingo has tools such as Undo/Redo, Repeat, and Direct Pass to help assist in the input process. • Lingo CNF also has special menus that help you easily find classifier words and numbers COPY • Copy your creation to the device's clipboard using Lingo's Copy button. COMMUNICATE • Use Lingo alongside your favorite messaging, email or social media platform to communicate with loved ones, friends, co-workers or anyone else. The possibilities are endless! Happy LingOing from the civet named Gwong!

Reviews of CNF Cantonese Romanization

  • No audio

I wish it had the pronunciation audio. That way you could hear it and practice over and over.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the review yale1234. Great idea!! Our initial version made an attempt to keep the app size small, so it's responsive and doesn't need to access data on the internet, so it's secure (because it doesn't collect user data). We'll keep this in mind for a future update.
  • Cantonese is great, but overlooked language

I haven't studied Cantonese for a while, but this app helps me a lot. One thing I remember is it's difficult to write and pronunciation needs to be perfected. Oh, and it's notoriously non-standardized. This app helps a lot and it's a great resource because unless you are from Hong Kong or Southern China helpful resources are hard to find for Cantonese. However, this is one of them.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the review. Cantonese is currently the newest app in our line of apps. We will continue to add new resources and functionality. New update coming soon!!
