I can’t believe how few reviews this has. I love survival/crafting games and Niffelheim hits the spot. Fun Norse mythology setting with a touch of creepy. It’s a platformer which I usually dislike, but I decided to give it a try anyway because the the graphics still look great. No problems here! I think it actually complements the vibe. It’s not a start to finish levels type of game, you get to move around and explore different locations and dungeons at your own pace. There’s a food bar that isn’t tedious, which is pretty classic for any survival. Great inventory management. Even if you store things away, they can be put towards crafting and quests.
This game gives you a leisurely start with plenty of resources around and time before you face enemies, but you may struggle if you’re used to hand holding tutorials for every mechanism. They do have a tutorial guide to flip through, but otherwise you’re set free. The bosses are challenging, but they’re avoidable in case you need time to level up your gear, and the other enemies are manageable. I definitely recommend this game even to those who aren’t interested in survival aspects as much. It’s free and they offer a cheap option to remove ads if you want.
Some suggestions:
* Really weak durability on shields lol, I can’t get through even 1 boss with 2 iron ones (better than wood and copper). They’re very helpful, please strengthen them!
* I wish the bow and arrows were more effective.
* When I’m in the town shop, I’m not able to hold down on an item to see what it is and how much it costs??
* the crafting menu sort of shifts depending on whether you have the resources needed on an item or not, which makes it really hard to find things. It’d be nice to leave the list as is and just highlight the craftable ones, use categorized lists (armor, weapons, etc), or add a search bar/filter.
* Allow us to choose how many of the item to craft. A little annoying for basic things like coal which can only be crafted one at a time.
* when using a chest, you can flip through the other chests easily (thank you!!), but I wish we could see the safe too.
* I like all the freedom, but I do wish there were some more quests and a storyline to immerse me. Some of the dialogue (at least early game) is too long and boring.
* I wish there was a lantern or glow charm to equip in the mines to see a bit further better. Or improve torches, I don’t really know what they’re supposed to do because I don’t see a difference.
* Maybe some basic armor/weapons in important chests early game, the contents have been a little underwhelming.
