2.17

May 16, 2024

Changed search by name (plant, genus, or family) to handle multiple words/tokens for searches like "May apple". Updated code so that ruler appears in iPhone 15's and devices introduced by Apple last fall. Fixed typo in the dichotomous key lead 25b for Phlox divarcata var. laphamii (robes to lobes and added glossary link). Fixed typo in Weigela japonica: changed "May0Jun." to "May-Jun." Updated icons in Graphic Key for palms & cycads and cacti. In dichotomous keys, display more text on orange buttons by increasing the button size in cases where the needed text is long. If it's super long, truncate text to a reasonable length. When viewing a species' images, scroll to top of the screen when switching to a new plant.

Description of FloraQuest

University of North Carolina's Southeastern Flora Team is pleased to present FloraQuest™: Northern Tier, a new plant identification and discovery app covering more than 5,800 wildflowers, trees, shrubs, grasses, and other vascular plants occurring in the northern part of our Flora area (Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and the southern parts of Illinois, Indiana, New York, and Ohio). With easy-to-use graphic keys, advanced dichotomous keys, habitat descriptions, range maps, and 20,000 diagnostic photographs, FloraQuest: Northern Tier is the perfect companion for your botanical explorations. You can use FloraQuest to make plant identifications in the field or learn about plants anywhere in the region. The app allows you to customize your search by state and physiographic province so you only see relevant results. FloraQuest: Northern Tier doesn't need an internet connection to run, so you can take it with you wherever you go. The app's "Great Places to Botanize" section will guide you to visit over 150 of the best sites for botanical exploration throughout the 12-state region. Do you struggle to remember complicated botanical terms? We've got you covered: click on a word you don’t know, and the definition will pop up in the app without you having to leave the page! Stay tuned following the release of the FloraQuest: Northern Tier app, as we will be working diligently to provide similar versions for the four remaining regions across the Flora of the Southeastern States, until all 25 states are covered. Next up: we'll make a FloraQuest app covering the Carolinas and Georgia!

Reviews of FloraQuest

  • Game changer for field botany

I have been using this app frequently for field botany for more than a year and it has been exceptional in every way. Excellent keys and current taxonomy aside, having this resource as a phone app has been everything I hoped. It is streamlined and user-friendly once you figure it out. Having the dichotomous keys filterable by state is a huge benefit. Can’t recommend this highly enough.
  • Powerful professional and learning tool

Excellent, the interface feels intuitive and super sleek. Can’t wait for the Southeastern version!

    Developer Response

Thanks for your kind words and positive feedback. We truly appreciate it!
