Stream Camera for NDI HX User Reviews

Top reviews

Works great, as long as you like the defaults!

The default output – 1080p @ 29.97 FPS – seems to stream okay if that's what you're after. Unfortunately, it's not, and none of the other options seem to work properly: I couldn't get the resolution to switch at all. The 15 FPS selection changed the frame rate previewed onscreen but not the frame rate of the NDI stream; the 30 FPS option actually captures 29.97 FPS, not 30; and the 60 FPS option caused each half-second of video to be repeated in the output, with alternate half-seconds not captured at all. And whatever you changed, all settings reset whenever the app was restarted.

The “Full NDI” output format looks alright. I didn't try HX2 H.264, but even at the highest possible bitrate (10 Mbps), the HX2 H.265 output looks terrible. As with the resolution selection, I suspect it's letting me pick a different bitrate but is ignoring it and continuing to use the default (1 Mbps).

The app technically has colour temperature selection, but the app just auto-adjusts for whatever you're pointing at when you hit the button – couldn't find a way to manually enter a temperature, so no way to synchronize temperatures between multiple cameras. And the temperature it auto-selected was always way warmer than appropriate.

Really disappointing. Too few NDI camera apps available with explicit, manual stream fidelity settings, so it's a shame this one doesn't work.

Waste

Bought specifically for the support of the different cameras including ultra wide for use with our tricaster. Has same functionality in that respect to free TC Camera. Which is no support for changing cameras. Doesn’t appear the zoom actually switches cameras either. Appears to be digital.

To choppy at 60fps

Bought it specifically for the 60fps support but it is way to choppy to use. Changing the resolution doesn't help. NDI Monitor also shows stream is coming in at 30fps so don't think it is working correctly.

No audio over NDI

Not sure why but it’s not broadcasting audio along with the video 4K resolution is very choppy. Perhaps you can enlighten this audience.

Response from developer

Full NDI 4K video may be choppy if your network connection is not fast enough. I would recommend switching to HX2 in this case. Also, please ensure that you have given the app microphone permissions and that you have enabled audio with the microphone button. The app is muted by default. If you have any other questions, you can email me via the Support link on the App Store page.

Useful for testing but needs lots of work

This did provide an NDI signal which allowed me to test an NDI monitor. Unfortunately there was no video when I gave permission to use the camera but denied permission to use the microphone. Only after I also permitted the microphone did I get video.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. The issue with the microphone permission should have been fixed in a prior release.
