IS PAYING MANDATORY TO USE THE APP

I just downloaded the app and it gives me no option but to pay. This app got recommended to me by my friends say it is OPTIONAL to pay and if you can’t pay you can continue using the app with adds. Please respond to me as I would appreciate it use this app for free with adds.
