  • Incredible app, worthwhile investment… one small suggestion!

    This app has changed my life in the past year. Worth the subscription & it only continues to improve, especially across languages (I listen in Spanish & English).
    My unique complaint— for whatever reason the app doesn’t recognize words that start a sentence with th— and it spells it out as TH- whatever the ending is (-e, -is, -em). Would love someone to take a glance at that, seems like an important contribution, lol.
    Keep up the good work! Love to knock out other tasks while I am prepping for class, conferences, or otherwise!

  • Great app

    Sometimes it incorrectly pronounces a word, misses some letters on a word. I listened to a paper where it pronounced first as ir s t multiple times through the paper. Otherwise it is great. I cannot read a whole paper as I fall asleep, but I can listen and read along or take notes.

  • Not as advertised

    I don’t even know where to start with the deception. First, the voices that read the PDFs are not the ones that you “choose from” in the beginning. They sounded like traditional robotic voices, not the advertised AI enhanced voices. Then, I had the hardest time getting the voice to change. When I figured out that I had to go to a desktop to see the voices in settings, the audio still didn’t change until I uploaded another PDF. Second, everyone talks about how great this app is because it’s different from others in how it recognizes what is relevant, but it doesn’t. It still reads some headers/footers and page numbers. Third, it skips over large chunks of text making listening irrelevant if I’m missing half of what I need to hear.

We’re working hard to make sure that we improve the options users have for the AI-enhanced voices. We'd like to note that changes to the voice settings will only apply to new uploads. If you’d like the documents you’ve already uploaded to be read in the new voice, you’ll need to re-upload them. Regarding text recognition, we’re continually improving how our app handles headers, footers, and page numbers. We're releasing an improvement in a few weeks that should help to improve this. We’d also love to help you troubleshoot the issue with certain sections being skipped.   • Lack of support. App keeps stopping

    There are few bugs in the app. Paid $29.99 per month which is very expensive for an app that has no support what soever. Here some of the issues:
    - App has Static sounds in some sections.
    - PDF needing to stop and download all the time and therefore;
    -Tried listening while driving but the app kept stopping at the end of each chapter and manual control is needed which made the app bad for listening while driving. Once the app stopped, it was hard to find the section where you last listened to, again, a manual action is required to select the next chapter.
    - the fast forward button and backward arrow is sitting on top of the “chapter” function make it hard to get through to the chapter when need to.

  • Too Many Errors

    There are too many errors in the text-to-speech conversion that makes listening to the audio inaccessible, which defeats the purpose of the app.

  • Bloated

    Preloaded with books and articles I am not interested in. Wasted bandwidth downloading these instead of downloading my docs. When I tried to delete them it gave error messages. Also, when I changed the preferred voice, it didn’t change for docs already started.

    The tabs do not work properly. Clicking two tabs returns 0 results because they are connected with ‘and’ not ‘or’ e.g. obviously there are 0 files that are both new *and* started, I wanted to see either new *or* started.

  • Junk compared to Speechify

    So I registered the trial before going on holiday so it helps me to read. I couldn’t cancel the trial and then now I’m trapped with this application comparatively this is quite buggy. You have no option with voice and then it is quite artificial. The main problem is the way it dissect paragraphs you have no way to read the original document. Additionally the other similar applications you can see the original documents alongside the read allow function and you can read websites as well.

  • I can’t imagine life without it

    As a grad student I love this app. I’ve had it about 6 months now, but the most recent update fixed a lot of my issues with it. I do wish the mobile version allowed me to see the document’s cover bc there’s so many sometimes I get them mixed up. I also wish it allowed me to build a filing system for readings for certain things. Hopefully they work on that when they finish out the little bugs. I love it though! It is a serious time saver.

    I like that you can select voices and there are often misreadings but you can still understand. However I don’t know how the can be translated into t he ?

  • Awful

    Too expensive and extremely robotic sounding. Also, this app has lots of bugs causing the screen to freeze. There are much better apps, such as natural reader.
