Description of Donate Books

The Internet Archive Donate Books app helps donors determine which books from their collection to donate to the Internet Archive so they can be preserved and digitized. The app allows users to scan their book barcodes or identifiers to figure out which books to donate. Users can scan book barcodes or OCR printed identifiers in their books using their phone camera to identify their books and match to corresponding metadata. They will then receive feedback on whether the Internet Archive wants to preserve and digitize the book. The app includes modes for scanning barcodes or using OCR to scan printed identifiers. Simply place the barcode or identifier in the view of your phone camera and see a red or green response indicating whether to donate the book or not. For installation instructions, where to report bugs or request assistance, and information about physical item donations to the Internet Archive please see our help center page.

  • Love it

Love this app for quickly processing piles of books the Internet Archive might need. Great UX. Only suggestion would be an option to turn on a log of books that have been scanned, and a way to export that list.
  • Woefully barebones

Great idea, poor execution. I have thousands of books, found this app, and thought it would be great to see if the Internet Archive might want any of them. So I downloaded the app, scanned the barcode of a book in my giveaway pile, and saw that the Internet Archive wanted it. Great! So then I looked in vain for any information in the app about how to actually donate the book. Nothing. It’s literally an app that says either Yes or No, and if you find a desirable book, it’s up to you to figure out what to do next.

  • Works well and is fun

I use this to find out what the archive needs, but also, sometimes just for fun to see what the archive has. (But I am biased, I work with the archive.)
