Trinity Lutheran Church of Stillwater, Minnesota is a faith community in the St. Croix Valley. We seek to be a church grounded in the reconciling Gospel of Jesus Christ. In doing so, we intentionally educate ourselves in becoming more effective advocates for all of God’s people. We embrace those of strong, uncertain, or undiscovered faith. We embrace all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions. We embrace every age, family structure, race, ethnicity, physical and mental capacity, and economic circumstance.
We believe all people have been created in the image of God, and therefore have valuable stories and infinite worth. Trinity is a Reconciling in Christ community.
We are the body of Christ! Gathered together by the grace and love of God, we proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ: expansive, inclusive love and forgiveness for every person. No exceptions? No exceptions—no matter who you are, where you come from and what your faith “status” is. We may not always get it right, but we keep trying. Because God first loved us.
We are guided by our mission and core values. Because God first loved us, we strive to live as Jesus in the world, loving God and loving our neighbors. We gather for engaging worship, striving to provide radical hospitality in an authentic community. We value lifelong learning and faith formation, and compassionate action as we go out in service, friendship, and community building.
Trinity Lutheran Church is a congregation in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) churchwide body. The ELCA is organized into 65 synods, each with an elected bishop. Trinity is part of the Saint Paul Area Synod.
Lutherans are a diverse group of people, trusting that the Holy Spirit is leading us toward unity in the household of God. Members of the ELCA are connected to the church through the ages and around the world. Lutherans believe in the Triune God and that we are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere and of every time. When we study the Bible and pray, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story. When we serve others and address social issues that affect the common good, we live out our Christian faith. We invite you into this community of Christian faith. Welcome, and explore.
Our church was founded in 1871 with 34 members. We recently celebrated 150 years and have an eye to the future as we look to the next 150 years.
The following land acknowledgment is an opportunity for the whole community to increase awareness and learn the truth of the history of the land on which Trinity Lutheran Church was built: Trinity Lutheran Church is located on the original and ancestral homelands of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ Dakhóta people, specifically the Wahpekute Nation. We are on Dakota and Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) land. This land holds spiritual and ongoing importance for its original stewards, the Native nations, and all Indigenous peoples of the St. Croix Valley region. We give thanks for their presence here since time immemorial. We also wish to recognize and honor all our Indigenous siblings who have and continue to call this land their home.
There are a tremendous number of opportunities to serve, learn and grow together as the Body of Christ. Your imaginations, passions and ideas are always welcome. As a congregation we are deeply committed to helping each person grow in faith and discipleship while becoming connected to a loving and hospitable community.
We hope that you feel welcome at Trinity. We hope you find your place at Trinity. You belong. You are beloved. You are enough. We are so glad you are here.
