So last year, the mobile studio Mighty games released a game called Destroy the House. And it was probably one of my favorite games of all time (I made a review on it 3 months ago so you should go check it out if you haven’t already)! And in May of 2023, they announced a sequel to it called Tear down the city. So of course I was really excited and it’s probably my second most anticipated game of the year (behind Super Mario Bros Wonder). And even better, it was available to pre order. So, on May 16th, I preordered the game and it said that it would release on 6/10/23. So, I eagerly waited for the game’s release and I mostly killed time by playing Lord of the Rings: Gollum on my PS5 until the game finally released. However, that was a month ago, and I completely forgot about the game. So it was about June 20th that I went onto my IPad and for some reason the game didn’t install. I went onto the appstore and it said that the game got delayed to 8/1/23 😡. As you could probably imagine, I wasn’t happy about this. BUT, as of writing this review, this morning, I turned on my IPad and the game was installed. I was never more excited in my life! Apparently, Mighty Games accidentally sent me an early access of the game a month before the game’s launch. So, I’m gonna do a “before you download” review since this game is technically not out yet. The performance of the game surprised me. While the first game only ran at 4K and 60fps, this one ran at 8K and 120fps, which is actually really impressive for a mobile game! Although, one complaint I have is that while the first game was freeroam, this one is divided into Lanier missions. BUT there is still a lot more to do in this game than the first one. For example, I was really surprised with the weapon selection. While the first game only had like 5 weapons, this game has so many weapons that they added variants. Also this game has firearm, which is something that the first game cannot say😏. The level design is also impressive, it feels like they put a lot of effort into designing all of the stuff you can destroy. While in terms of maps I do prefer the first game’s more open world, at least the developers are trying to make this as good of a sequel as it can be. Unfortunately the sound design is recycled from the first game, but that’s a problem I can get over. But something I CAN’T get over is the amount of bugs I’ve ran into. This game can be very glitchy at times and sometimes the game will even crash😡. But I think that just has to do with the fact that I’m playing this game a month before it’s confirmed launch. Also, this game is kind of like another game that I played before called Minecraft because there are no physics. There are even cars in this game!!! Something I’ve wanted since the first game!!! But one annoying feature is that there are some items that can only be destroyed by a certain weapon variant. Like you can only cutdown trees with the axe which is a little stupid. Also, I wish there were more levels. But something that makes up for all of the issues with this game, are the buildings, specifically the houses. They are twice as big as they are in the first game and there is so much more to destroy. In the original, you can’t even go inside of the houses, but in this game, not only are there houses, but there are also offices, and you can basically destroy everything, and even go inside of them. The only problem is, unlike in the first game (where you can tear down any house you want) in this game, you can only break into one house per level, which is the main reason why I didn’t like the linearity of this game. This game also has no ads meaning that the creators are mostly going to make money of of microtransactions but hey I’ll take it over the annoying amount of ads in the first game. So, in conclusion, is destroy the house 2 better than the first game? For now, I’m gonna say no. While yes this game does do a lot of good things to improve of of the original, I don’t know, it just feels like there’s something missing. But like I said, I’m just playing the beta. So once this game FINALLY releases on August 1st, I’m sure all of the issues will be fixed. I’m also hoping that this game gets improved over time. And I’m sure that with updates that this game could eventually become a masterpiece of a sequel that will be better in every possible way than the original. I highly recommend that you guys download this game next month, and who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy it! I’m sure this review will age very quickly so when this game finally releases, I will make another review on the full game in September probably so see you then!
