Cool App - Read The Instructions!
Hit the "i" button to read the instructions. Basically this app uses your finger to cast a shadow and then lines up N with true North. A really neat app which is getting unfairly blasted because of people who don't read instructions! Works nicely too!
Won't work in Oz
Cute concept, but it certainly doesn't work here in the southern tropics and I would hazard a guess that it won't work in the northern tropics in winter either - when the sun is south of the observer.
Should be fixable with location services or a manual latitude - preferably the latter as there are better ways to determine north if you are in range of services.

A compass that perptually points in the same direction.
I apologize for the (useless) reviews. The "info" icon has finally responded on my Touch. And, this application can indeed be quite useful.
Awesome app
With this, I can easily go for walks out in the bush, and so long as the sun is out I can find my way home.
Shame on the previous reviewer that didn't read the instructions.

What a waste of time
Well its a good thing it's free if i had paid for it i would have demanded my money back. works nothing like a real compass..... so whats the point i can do this with a piece of paper or things around me. and what if its night time?? what do you do then.... wait till the next day? not that i even know where i would make use of this function, COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME AND DOWNLOAD ALLOWANCE (even though its free)!!!!

Great free application, make sure you read the instructions
I like this application. It works well if you read and understand the instructions. Best of all, it's free!
Accurate?
I had a program like this on my Palm that used the time, lattitude, longitude and shadow to get an accurate compass reading. This program does not use geo location for some reason so it is probably only accurate if you happen to live in the same area as the programmer.
Great
thanks for the info !
will be usefull when 3G or Wifi is unavaliable and being lost
yeah it works!
OK in case you haven't worked it out, what you are supposed to do is put your finger vertically on the compass reticule, and then line the shadow of your finger onto the white line that appears on the compass. Once you have the shadow and the white line aligned the compass will be properly aligned to north.
It seems that this app uses GPS and the time to work out where the white line should be, as it works in the southern hemisphere as well as ( I assume) the north.
Thanks for this free app!
