  • Very poor implementation.

I know there are only two other reviews that give high praise, but one must be from the developer. This seismometer only displays one axis at a time…. a bit useless if you a trying to record all 3 or even just two for that matter. The streaming feature SEEMS to work well…. except it only displays the Z axis even if you select the Y or X axis. It will ONLY stream the Z axis. Since earthquakes and other shaking rarely occur on a single axis, and most are rarely on the Z axis (up/down), this is completely useless.

Allow displaying/recording of multiple axis, and allow the stream to display ANY other axis besides the Z axis, and it will be a GREAT app.

    Developer Response

The streaming feature does stream all 3 axis, maybe you're confused by that one of the open-source demo apps only displays the Z axis. Check the python example and protocol spec for more information https://yellowagents.com/seismometer/protocol.html
  • Outstanding

Outstanding app. The streaming feature works incredibly well. Support by the developer is excellent also.
  • Cool

I love the app but it is actually supposed to be called Seismograph
  • Seismometer is a FLATLINER with my new iPhone 4

I love the Seismometer, don't get me wrong, but I bought my iPhone 4 the other day, opened Seismo up and it's flatlining like a raghead at the wrong end of a .50 BMG. It used to work fine on my 1st gen, but I haven't used it since before this new, insensitive version of Seismometer everyone is complaining about came out. I used to love the sensitivity of it, where you could put it on a countertop and the vibrations through the house would register. Don't dumb it down to the level of gorillas handling Samsonite luggage, keep it sensitive. You know, like a real seismometer. And please make it work with the iPhone 4! I'll be glad to rate it 5 stars.

  • Current version a terrible downgrade

This version is absolute rubbish. It's whopping 2 settings can't even be changed in the app itself. It's key feature is to be record or broadcast of data; Who would ever do that and why? This is NOT a scientific instrument, and little short of touching the device will show anything. Awful.

Prior version showed 10x more sensitivity with more features and was good fun. This 'update' literally ruined everything and is being promptly deleted. A shame, since this was quite unique before.

  • Could be better.

I've had this app for a long time, and have used it to demonstrate the accelerometer in the iPhone.

The latest update seems to have greatly reduced the sensitivity even if you go to the settings page and turn on all 3 axes. This needs to be addressed, perhaps with a slider bar for each axis to adjust sensitivity.

Speaking of the settings page, why the author chose to bury it in the main setting page for the phone is beyond me. It is way too cumbersome that way. Why not just an "i" as most apps have? The problem is if the icon for the app is several pages away from the settings page icon, it is quite difficult to go back and make changes. This REALLY needs to be fixed.

Also needed are some (at least rudimentary) instructions and help pages.

The update appears to have included some sharing features, but without instructions, they are worthless.

Until these are fixed, I can't rate it much above 3 stars.

  • Great app but needs updates

This is a very helpful app for watching events live. This needs a data logger. If events happen over a paramater the user sets the time and size of the event can be logged and reviewed later. That needs to go in an update please.
  • holds great potential but..

needs more updates It needs.. ability to save recordings as flash video to see recordings like they are just happening zoom out to see more of the recording give ratings 1 to 10 on the seismograph, so you know how it rates up to real quakes ability to save as photo with emailing ability just in case a very interesting quake happens

  • Well worth it but.......

Well worth a the price. Found many uses for this appt. Great for any paranormal researcher. But the one major downside is that you can pause it and go back. It must need a update so I can scroll back. Overall well worth the price and fun to play with.
  • Interesting

Like others have said this app has potential and needs a few extras. I agree with the need for seperating the 3 axis, being able to scroll back, and save. I'd also like to suggest an alarm function. There could maybe be a slider for the level at which you would want the alarm to sound at, possibly for each of the 3 axis? Thanks
