Best chess program for iPhone/iPod

I wrote a comment and they listened and made some adjustments! The graphics may not be as good as cyber chess or caissa chess but the chess engine might be the best compared to chess classics, caissa chess, cyber ultimate chess and tchess and others. PGN feature is a good addition to chess genius superb qualities!

Please increase the playing strength of chess genius if possible. I tried playing it with shredder 11 on my computer with a playing mode of 2 hours per game and shredder 11 won 3 games in 40 to 50 moves!

Le meilleur

De loin le meilleur porgramme d'échecs sur iPod. Le design des pièces doit être amélioré.

note to the creators of the game.

!/ the design and look of the games are probbebly the best looking on iphone. 2/ there is a sirious faul in the rules of the game after i put a king into chesck a few mover later he is able to castle, and if you'r a chessmaster as I am this is a serious flaw so i hope to creators of this app will take this seriously and correct on a update. 1/ anyway after all that the game is well worth buying. hopeffuly the creator will upate the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2/ hint hint to the maker could you make this an onle play function in some fucher updates so please can you correct this fault in the games as sopon as possible. Thank you.

Insane strength

I'm about 1800 level, play about even with caissa chess. This program just ripped me to shreds with ease. Graphics could be a bit crisper, but 10 bucks is worth it for the sheer power of the engine even if you already have caissa. Wow.

Very strong program!

Thank you, Mr. Lang from bringing Chess Genus to the iPhone! It's the strongest chess application and easy to use! I've played a dozen demonstration games against Palm HIARCS and it holds HIARCS even. It's a lot of fun on the iPhone and I hope Mr Lang ports his PC version to the Mac next!

Powerful chess app

I've used Chess Genius on other mobile platforms, and have come to expect a robust, powerful chess game which fits the platform's UI. Chess Genius for the iPhone does this easily! The engine it's based on has a great history, and has proven to be extremely solid.

• The interface is simple yet attractive. No 3d, outer space games with wizards... Just great chess.

• Flexible levels. The lower levels are moderately strong but beatable, the upper levels will kill you unless you're quite strong, and it's easy to choose a level.

• It doesn't have an 'idiot' mode. It plays chess, and it uses all the rules. I think this is a plus myself... YMMV

Great app

Very nice features. Very good play. NOT beginner friendly. Lower levels are quite difficult.

Awesome Chess

I hate this app for two reasons: 1. All my mates wants a little play with my iPhone, but when they start playing Chess Genius they won't give it back; 2. The program beats me. Seriously, this app rocks. It's the strongest chess program I've ever used at its higher levels and is great for novices too. It's easily worth the double the money, especially as it keeps the mother-in-law quiet for hours!

Mid level player

This is my 3rd hand held chess application, 1st on the iPhone. The graphics are great, and the set up very efficient. My only complaint is that I did not know the game title was a prerequisite for the buyer! By that I mean, the levels of play are not scaled to allow progressive learning; you must be a chess whiz to stay in the game at any level. Even at the lowest level ("0-Easiest") the chess engine knows some pretty sophisticated maneuvers, i.e. "en passant" with a pawn, and it never makes the sort of mistake a human beginner (or intermediate!) would make. True, you can take back moves, and the game will even tutor you with the advice that a move was a bad one. BUT, by the time you get that warning, the only way to stay in the game is to surrender the controls to the engine for every single subsequent move. You are already backed into a corner where the master has calculated every permutation. Accept the advice to take back the bad move, then make any move on your own in a following step, and you will just be slammed in a different way. So any but the most proficient chess player will end up not just defeated, but crushed by a master over and over again, an experience that does not help teach an advancing player. I found the PocketChess for Palms, and even Apple's iChess instructive. I lost many early games, but each was a "close" game, and I eventually worked up to become a better player, occasionally beating the engine, and then setting it for a higher level of play. With this engine, every game is a loss to the best. Just too darn advanced.

Challenging and Rewarding!

I've played this app for many years on mobile platforms. It has literally helped me learn chess. I'm so glad to see it on the iPhone platform. I purchased the other chess applications from the iTunes store, because I didn't think Chess Genius was going to be ported to the iPhone. All of the chess apps have thier strengths and weaknesses, but for me the other titles are video games, while Chess Genius is a portable learning companion.
