Reviews of Learn Scottish Gaelic

  • Solid to start with

This app is pretty solid to start off learning with, but kinda short lived with mostly just vocabulary. I wish there were a more extensive library of phrases, especially those that you’d use on a daily basis, and not just in specific instances (ie Greeting, Shopping, Travel). Otherwise super solid for isolated words. Love the authenticity with the native speakers.
  • I dont like it!

This app does not give you the same words as my learn Gaelic dictionary book that I have. I am very disappointed. Its like it is in a totally different language than Gaelic!

    Developer Response

We take accuracy very seriously and always use two native speaking translators and two native speaking voice artists for every language so four Scottish Gaelic speakers will have checked all the words on this app. But it’s important that we investigate your concerns so please contact support@utalk.com with examples of which words you are unhappy with. Also, it would be good to rule out that your Learn Gaelic dictionary doesn’t refer to one of the other Gaelic languages spoken outside of Scotland such as Irish (spoken in Ireland) or Manx (spoken in the Isle Of Man)? Looking forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Sarah PS Coincidentally I was speaking to a Scottish Gaelic speaker only this week who told me that on the Scottish islands, for instance, they use different words for water, milk and porridge than the ones she does so there clearly are some regional differences.
  • OK

Good basic categories but the games are too easy with the “hard games” still prompting far too often on the few words that sound like English words. By contrast, the sections that share phrases go way too quickly to really learn the phrase (slower please!). Immediately bummed there’s no section to learn the alphabet or basic pronouns, definite articles... basic building blocks of a sentence, though you can piece some things together from looking at enough of the basic phrases they teach. Still glad I got this app though!

    Developer Response

Thanks for your feedback. This app is aimed at complete beginners and is designed to set achievable goals so that users are motivated to learn more. We also appreciate that it can be frustrating when English sounding words crop up more regularly than you’d like them to in Scottish Gaelic. But we’re really pleased to hear that you want more challenging Scottish Gaelic content and we can definitely help! Please contact support@utalk.com and we’ll point you in the right direction pronto. Best wishes, Sarah
