  • Great!

I got this app when it was on a super sale for only $1 and that alone deserves 5 stars.

Other than that, I love the features this has. A sampler AND a synthesizer in one package; not to mention a great sequencer as well! For fans of audio trackers and chiptunes, this is the app for you!

Navigation between patterns and what instrument those patterns should be is a huge pain. Also the location of the play button on a different screen then the pattern editor is kinda goofy. Not all bad, the sounds nanoloop puts out are pretty good and app runs quick and smooth even on my 3G. Maybe lower the price a bit or modify how instruments are assigned to patterns. Oh and song mode is pretty straight forward and predictable, a big plus.

  • a serious sequencer, synthesizer, tracker

I hate to use some obscure touch stones for describing this app, but if you are down with tracker interfaces, or event editors, or even roland x0x seqs, you will be comfortable here. A larger point is that this app was clearly developed with quite a bit of care for the touch interface. While some of the other sequencers found on iThing seem to have only been tested through the mouse interface, and simulator, Oliver has gone the extra mile to tweak on the device and make sure that the songs can actually be written directly on the device. There is also clearly thought put into what he left out. The music creation process, in particular the synthesizers have a really nice lack of features that let you jump quickly through potential sounds while not getting stuck on sounds that are not really that great. Oliver has also gone way beyond what is expected of the standard iThing dev in terms of putting out both bug releases and feature add ons super quick. He is extremely active on his forum and has been responding to all of the questions about the software that the users come up with. Take some time to surf through the forums if you need a reason to purchase the app, you can see that a nice little community is already developing around this app even in the short time it has been out.
