  • Disappointing.

Not worth the £5.99 price asked.

It's not that useful for identifying species you're unfamiliar with as there's no key, and the species list (to click on the species you want to look at) is just a written list - no images. So, for example, to identify something I found in a rockpool I guessed at "invertebrate", then clicked the first species listed under "seashore", and scrolled through every species until I'd found it.

Really quite disappointed, given that the Collins wildlife books are pretty good.

  • Not worthy of the original...

As an owner of the 'Collins Complete British Wildlife Photoguide', I was excited at the prospect of downloading the 'interactive version'...sadly I feel cheated by this interpretation. The photographs are significantly inferior in quality to the original and the 'interactive' capability is laughable. The 'search' facility is seriously flawed and well below par for an app of this price. The developers should take a look at 'iBird Explorer' or 'Birds of Britain & Ireland Pro' and take steps to improve this potentially excellent application...if only I had listened to the reviews!

  • Disappointing

Though reasonably comprehensive this is a poorly executed app. The insect photographs are often blurry and indistinct, the accompanying summary information is only very basic. The user interface is poorly thought through and cheap looking. I can only imagine the high cost of this app has something to do with licensing the content from Collins because it certainly hasn't been spend on development.

  • Ok but not great

A balance of previous reviews. It works pretty well but pics could be better hi res ones. It really does need to be consistent giving poisonous or not for every fungus. It also really needs a database backend so we can search by characteristics. I.e choose catagory then if birds offer search by wing span, colour, size, typical location, etc. It is interesting as but has much scope for improvement.

  • Quick and easy

Runs nice and fast and allows you to browse through a fairly logical breakdown of species and habitats.

Slightly light on features, should be able to swipe back and forward between animals rather than having to use the arrows. Would be good to change the sorting (currently alphabetical by habitat) to something like ordered by size or colour so you can identify an animal you don't know the name of.

  • Really not good enough.

As a medium priced app, I hoped for much more.
There is not nearly enough detail for this to be any sort of field guide (For instance, how can you identify a tree using only a picture of its blossom if the tree in question is not in blossom?)
And it is not nearly 'pretty' enough to be simple 'eye-candy'. (the photos are poorly realised; not sharp but fuzzy and colours are somehow 'muted' etc.)

Its scope is large with 1500 species (and I'd be happy to pay much more for an app like this that is more comprehensive), but 1500 pictures that are not pretty and are uniformative are at this price point poor value.

  • Lacks polish

Has the potential to be a must have app but has been lazily implemented.

Page navigation should be possible ny swiping rather than just buttons. Would be nice to see thumbnails in the list view to aid identification (see the app birds). Also theres only a single image per entry why not have male, female and juveniles or trees and leaves.

Please update to make this worth the relatively high purchase price.

  • Quite good but a little disappointed

This could have been an excellent app but I am disappointed with the quality and clarity of many of the photographs. They look as if they were taken quite a few years ago on film and it seems they haven't been transferred well from the book to this app. What is needed is a refresh with hi res digital photos. Image quality is most important particularly for an app of this price. Additionally the amount of information for each subject seems to vary in depth. However a very useful app as a field guide.

  • Nice

Very nice but would be interesting if users could add content such as more
images and further notes, and new entries.
  • Brilliant App

Brill App and very informative but why doesn't it tell you which Fungi are poisonous and which are ok?? I think this should be added in an update as I expected this information to be included for £5.99.
