2.2.1

February 21, 2014

Version 2.2.1 of x2yMorph includes several iOS7-related changes and an improved video generation capability. Specific changes include the following: • A fix to a portrait/landscape problem that occurred on iPads running iOS7. • An improvement that makes video generation more reliable, and the resultant videos smoother. The generated videos now have approximately twice the number of calculated images (frames), and they play back at approximately twice the number of frames per second. This results in a smoother, more gradual transition. The video generation now takes longer, but the required time for a complete “Save” operation (including video generation) is only a few seconds on recent devices. • Changes to buttons and other user interface elements, for compatibility with iOS7. • An additional sample morph, between a baby’s face and a great-great-grandfather’s face. • A new icon for the app, suggesting its face-to-face morphing capabilities. • Updated tutorials. • A prerequisite that iOS7 or later be installed prior to installing this version of x2yMorph.

Description of x2yMorph

x2yMorph is a morphing application that is optimized for the iPhone and iPod Touch. To use it, you first select a start image and an end image from your photo albums, zooming in to desired areas of interest, such as a face. You then select corresponding points ("control points") on the two images (for example, the center of the left eye on each image). After a few points have been placed, x2yMorph calculates and displays an intermediate image (for example, halfway between the start image and the end image, if the slider is set to the halfway point). You can also view your morph as a "movie loop" that shows your start image gradually morphing into your end image. Typically, your start image and end image will be pictures of two people's faces. But you can also obtain interesting morphs by using other kinds of images (for example, animal images). You can also make interesting, artistic morphs by starting with images of colorful geometrical patterns and placing the control points in any creative way that you like. x2yMorph has several distinctive features. A multiformat image display mode lets you see your start image, end image, and morphed image all at once. This triple image format makes it easier for you to select corresponding points on the start image and end image. It also lets you immediately see the results of your latest point placement on the morphed image. To compensate for the reduced image size of the multiformat display mode, a magnifying glass technique is used. This lets you place points while viewing the underlying images at their full native resolution. To further facilitate point placements and correlations, color coded markers are used on the start and end images. You can easily tell which point on the end image corresponds with a given point on the start image. There are many display modes. In addition to doing interactive (slider-controlled) viewing of your morph, you can also view your morph as a "movie loop" in either the multiformat display mode or a zoomed-to-full-size single image format. When you save a morph, several output formats are generated. These include: (1) an internal x2yMorph representation of the morph, (2) a sequence of morphed images that get stored in the "Camera Roll" or "Saved Photos" album of your device, and (3) a special (640x640) multiformat image. The third of these formats resembles the three-image format described above, but with the addition of a small but visible "bit stream" that incorporates the points definitions of the morph. This image is also stored in the "Camera Roll" or "Saved Photos" album of your device. From there it can be uploaded and shared with another x2yMorph user by means of a third party app that uploads the image to a website without resizing it. And finally, saving a morph also creates and saves the morph as a video file that you can view later and share with others (e.g., via email or uploading via a third part app). While using x2yMorph, help is always just a tap away. Tapping the "?" button brings up a tutorial, and tapping it again brings you back to where you were in your work.

  • Good but

It's hard to do your own one because you do not know what button to press otherwise good game and I rate it five star
  • Great app!

Works just fine. The 4 stars are because the images are much reduced from the original pixel count of the input images. Not all of us out here have the attention span of a Frito. Let us have full res images even though it will take longer to compute and I will then 5 star this app!
  • Great idea, needs a couple things

First, it needs an undo button, for those times when I inadvertently delete all my key points. Second, the start and end images are too small, what about an option to switch to horizontal when adding new points? Lastly, I want to be able to say how many frames get exported when I save, I would definitely want more than 11! Thanks.
