Absolutely worth it, but tends freeze

The app is incredible considering it’s free. I like that you can download the dictionaries for free, and I really appreciate the fact that I can search multi-word phrases to translate. The main problem is that the app freezes all the time and is often slow and buggy. If this gets fixed, the app would be perfect.

Very Glitchy

Have had the App maybe about a week now, and almost every time I access the app, it will freeze up on me. I won’t be able to give any keyboard input and none of the app’s controls will work. I can close the app, come back to it at a later time and all will work fine. I give the app 4 stars only because the content is so good. Every time I get a notification of app updates, I’m hoping Linguee will have one to fix this problem, but no such luck.

Amazing resource, but buggy on iOS

Linguee (and DeepL) are my daily use apps for translations. The tech and features themselves are really useful. However the app is very buggy on iPhone mini 13 with iOS 15 and 16. Freezes and lags all the time when switching between apps, keeps asking if you want to allow clipboard text to be pasted, often non-responsive. I hope this gets fixed. In any case I would just move to using it through the browser or the macOS app when on my laptop.

5 stars, although I would love a feature

I often look up the same word more than once, and would love a feature where I can save words to photos. I think this would help build up vocabulary and make it easier for people to transport the words to a quiz app or something.
Regards, thanks for the great app

Bogus app request for network permissions

This app is very suspicious.

First, they avoided updating their app for ages to avoid filling out the now mandatory “App Privacy” section of the App Store entry.

Second, it will not run without access to the local network, claiming it needs to connect to a server that it runs and it’ll never connect to any other service. This does not make sense from a technical perspective: iOS does not allow apps to start services. At all. Ever. Google it if you don’t believe me, a professional developer. This explanation does not make any sense.

Finally, when I gave up on the app and jumped over to their website, I found more cause for concern. Like the rest of the internet, they added the EU-mandated “do not track” box with a little on/off slider, but they intentionally implemented it in such a way that it is hard to operate: you have to tap on it many times for it to toggle.

These developers are clearly not being honest with us. That’s too bad, because this was a nice app I’d have been willing to pay for (even subscribe to!) if they weren’t so sketchy.

Great app but slow on older phones

I love this app, and will continue to use it to see if my issues get better. I’m on an older iphone and it takes an average of 3-5 seconds for the app to start responding to input. this generally starts unnoticeable, and as i search more it compounds until it’s faster to restart the app. I love the design, content and UX but the delay makes this app really frustrating for me to use. No hate towards the developers, y’all did a great job and it seems most people are loving it c:

Excellent tool for language learning

Have been using Linguee for years. At the moment using it to learn German. Absolutely invaluable in helping me to learn words, particularly the more complex ones, in their proper context.

Best Translation App to Date

I’m primarily using this for French, and I have to write a review to say that this has by far been the best app I’ve downloaded for translations. They have just about every translation for every possible meaning of a word, and if that wasn’t enough the examples they give you at the bottom are native speakers using that word in context. It has everything you could need and more when it comes to precise translations.

The only gripe I have with this app is how much it freezes and crashes. Searching up a word can take up to 5 whole seconds to process. The web version is much smoother, and if you can, I would recommend using that over the app at the moment. However, if you need translations offline, this is still a great translater app and site in general.

Amazing.

I was not expecting this App to be this good. The developers did an incredible job.

Perfect resource with one problem

There is no feedback option in the app so I am leaving my feedback here. This is one of the best engines I’ve come across for multilingual research but there is one very annoying problem. 90% of the time when you are switching between apps, the Linguee app times out, or whatever is the technical term, and the app freezes when you re-access it—even if you exit the app for only a few seconds. It takes forever for the app to become responsive again—around 5-10 secs, which is not acceptable at all for a normal, functioning app. It should be immediate. Very frustrating and annoying. This would be a 5 star review if not for this caveat.
