Use wisely

This app started me on a five year battle with anorexia. I’m not saying this will happen to you, but I will say that I know 30 other girls with an ED (met them across my FOUR admissions to the psych ward), and EVERY SINGLE ONE used this app. It can be good to track things and start your weight loss journey, but if you are particularly vulnerable to mental illness, have a history with eating or exercise issues, or have a very negative self-perception and/or perception of food, this app is not for you. Take care of yourself, look up existing meal plans designed for weight loss and follow those, rather than wasting your precious time on this earth weighing the amount of peanut butter on your toast.

MyFitnessPal believes food should nourish and be enjoyed, however, we acknowledge that relationships with food are not always so simple. https://support.myfitnesspal.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032625071-Eating-Disorder-Resources

Weight loss

My fitness pro has worked for me, they say it’s what you put in your mouth and I agree
If you measure your intake and eat the correct food along with regular exercise then you will lose weight and feel great about yourself.
Thanks My Fitness Pro, this app has been my rock, I think I am at 175 days without missing any meal recording and face lost 25kg with just 8kg to go to get to my target weight.
Cheers

I’ve been using MFP for many years

I love MFP. I’m the type of person who has gone up and down in weight my whole adult life. Between having 3 children and just my basic big appetite I need structure. I have most recently lost 30 pounds over the course of about a year. I log my food quickly every day. No obsessing, just keeping track to stay within my calorie range. Of course there is the occasional Holiday that I will not track but found that if I get right back to tracking the next day I will not gain weight from my Holiday eating. After all these years I have it down to a science and it just works for me. It’s very user friendly. You can keep all your favorite foods and meals so it’s very easy to quickly log in your food diary and keep yourself accountable. There are so many features like setting goals , logging exercise, and reading community for inspiration or tips. When I want to loose some weight I know how many calories and how much exercise will do it because of MFP. I am at my normal weight at the moment give or take a few pounds and loving it. And I still track. That’s the key for me. I could go on and on but take my word for it. If you really want to get in shape or stay in shape and need some help try this app. Dedicate yourself and you will succeed!

We are so happy to hear that the MyFitnessPal app has been helping you reach your goals! Keep up the excellent work!

Love it! Have some suggestions:

I really love this app! It has helped me in so many ways and for several years! It has amazing features and is always getting better. I love the HUGE food dictionary it has, the macronutrient breakdowns, and the exercises! I figured this would be a good place for some ideas I've brainstormed for future updates... 1) Having foods color-coded or labeled with a little icon that categorized the type of food it is (veggie, fruit, grain, dairy, protein) and then you can more easily visualize how many servings of each type of food category you’re eating! Like for example, if you log 2 cups of spinach, you would get 2 green leaf symbols to show that you ate 2 servings of veggies! 2) this is not necessary, but could be a fun change for those long-term MFP users: allowing us to change the color of our diary. Right now, the default is blue. What if we had the option to change that?! It would spice it up a bit, especially if you’ve been using it for years! Again, the app is amazing but if they're looking for different things to change it up, there's my two cents! 3) Being able to check a bubble that indicates if you stopped eating at enough and ate when hungry to help with intuitive eating. This view could also have an option to hide calories and macros.

Love this app!

This is an incredible tool that has allowed me to understand my nutrition and my body. I have been able to notice habits that were good and not good through this app. The app has an incredible range over everything on there and if not the specific thing you need, then there is an alternative version. I do wish, however, that I had more than 10 barcode scans a month. My friend has unlimited and he has a free account, something to consider opening to everyone, hopefully. Besides that, incredible app and easy to use once you understand, only takes a couple food logs to get the hang of. Been logging for 39 days straight 🔥

Brilliant App

I’ve been using this app for quite some time now and I have been enjoying what it offers. I have just started dieting again and have paid for premium which allows me to concentrate on daily calories, and adjusting protein, carbs and fat for cutting down. Which means losing fat and keeping my lean muscle. This addition also allows me to set up 1 day a week to have a higher calorie as this is my cheat day.
I would love it if zinc can be added to the nutrition page as I really would like to know if I’m getting enough of this in my diet.
I would highly recommend this app if you want to keep control of the calories you have per day

Hi there! Thank you for your review of MyFitnessPal, we are happy to hear you are enjoying the program! Please also see https://myfitnesspal.zendesk.com/hc/articles/360032621751-How-can-I-track-vitamins-medications-or-supplements for more information on logging vitamins and minerals.

Has become slow, bloated, and frustrating to use

I open the app to log food, I am on the log food screen from last time, great! I press on Add Food for the meal I want to log food for. Nothing happens, then the app switches to the dashboard, why? Then rather than ignoring the press on the previous screen it chooses to process it on the dashboard screen, so it goes to some random, useless, page like my profile. I now have to press back once and then choose log food again and then I can actually do the one thing I do the most with this app, which is put the data in. Why do I have to go through this? Why can’t it just stay on the actual useful page and let me enter the data immediately?

I have contacted support and their cookie cutter response says use the dashboard page logger but this does not allow me to set the time. Also, I was on the page that allowed me to log food, why would I want to go to another one with less features?

Does anyone who works on this app from a product or dev perspective still actually use it? It is much slower and after many years I’m sadly looking for alternatives.

Great app but small issues

I am located in Australia

I am using your app, however I am also on a meal plan of 1200 cal per day with lite n easy and I’m noticing that the calories calculated in the app are not amounting to the correct calories that lite n easy has dedicated to the meals, I am wondering if there is a reason why this is?

I am currently using the free version. I also think it would be beneficial. If you offered students a discount to use this app as it is beneficial for students young people and anyone to be able to make healthy lifestyle changes. However the app is rather expensive for someone who is studying full-time.

As a nursing student, I would like to use this app in the premium version however, I cannot afford the current cost of the app.

Overall, the app has been a good experience. I do wish the exercise videos had explanations of what to do and how to do the exercises. I would like to say one day that we can connect our Apple watches to the exercise videos through the app to see how many calories were burning when we screen, share it to our TV.

I look forward to using this app in the future, and I hope everyone reading this has a great day.

I also think it would be good if the app could send motivational notifications to both the free users and the premium users to help encourage movement and using the app.

LOVE my food diary, Social tabs though…

I appreciate the detailed nutritional values presented to me and almost any item in my pantry (and very likely your own) can be found with-in their VAST database making it so simple and easy to weave together my OWN meal plan, as well as a straight forward macro calculator letting you know how much more protein/fats/carbs needed to meet your goals.

However I could do without the endless social tabs, status updates, detailed notes etc, etc.
I feel there’s much too many tabs with-in these menus it can feel overwhelming and sometimes frustrating going through these tabs when I simply don’t use them.

I would instantly rate this a 5 If I had the option to hide these tabs but regardless if you’re looking for an app to track your macros look no further.

Features Not Worth The Extra Money

——1) The app works well enough until you’re forced to update, and only Heaven knows what will happen then (today it’s the recipe builder domain error … AGAIN). I’m not paying for features I neither want nor need just to use the barcode scanner. I found it useful but not that useful. Further, although I like the app, it hasn’t bought my loyalty. I will happily return to the FitBit app to continue my tracking should additional features suddenly end up behind an overpriced paywall. ——2) It’s an okay app, but not exceptional enough to fork out an ongoing fee. If they want to encourage premium membership, make it worth it. That includes accurate food entries. Too many, including those accessed by barcode, are wrong or outdated. They can’t be trusted. Better syncing with the various trackers and their apps. Although syncing has been more reliable with my Apple Watch than FitBit, it still has its idiosyncrasies. ——3) Entering recipes. Do you have any idea how infuriating it is to enter a recipe by hand, not once, but five times only to have it populate an “NSURLErrorDomain error 500” on the last step when one tries to save? I assure you, it IS infuriating and it happens every few uses. Oh, and my entered Foods and Recipes disappear from the app. I know I entered them, but they’re nowhere to be found for selection. I can’t even search them on the MyFitnessPal website. I’m not paying extra for something that hasn’t proven itself entirely reliable.
