Description of The Runes

The Runes is an iPhone application for both iPhone and iPod touch based on the respected book, The Runes: A Human Journey by Kari Tauring. Tauring is an author, educator and musician who has been studying the Nordic Runes for more than two decades. She brings a depth of understanding and wisdom to runes and rune readings that is easy for beginners to understand yet still fulfilling for advanced students. The Runes guides you in doing doing single (Wyrd), two rune (Kona/Mannen) or three rune (Norns) pulls. It also allows you to do a “freecast” of rune arrangements you design yourself and the ability to create Rune Charms you can save to your photo gallery (and then add as wallpaper) or email to yourself. You can also save your readings and email them to yourself or your friends right from the app. Other configurable options include whether or not to include rune reversals when you do your pulls and to listen to a selection of Kari Tauring’s original music as you do your pulls. You’ll find yourself using this application everyday. It’s like having a bag of runes and a helpful rune guide book them in your pocket at all times. This application contains the complete text of the Tauring’s book (a $15.95 value). When viewing the rune summaries for any rune, simply select the “Full Text” link to read Tauring’s entire chapter on that rune.

Reviews of The Runes

Perfect!

Exactly what I was looking for and worth the $1.99! Simple app that helps you learn the runes and do readings.

I’m a professional Tarot reader with over 8 years of experience. I download lots of deck apps to try them out before buying the hard copy versions.

I did the same thing with this rune app. I wanted to see if I could read and connect with them, and It works great!

Here’s a good example of its accuracy: in my Tarot readings, I’ve been asking about my side business, and I keep getting the Lovers card which I feel represents a divinely guided partnership that’s coming up in my business.

So... I cast runes in this app, and the rune that comes up is Gifu. One of the meanings of Gifu is a gift that creates relationships. It looks like an “X,” so I’ve also heard it described as two 90-degree angles “kissing,” and a relationship or equal partnership energy!

What a beautiful validation! Thanks to the app creators! This is a simple program that works exactly as expected!

Like so far

It’s hard without being a rune scholar to assess the quality of a given interpretation of how runes should work. For decades I used Ralph blum’s book and tiles. Then I find out there was no blank rune. Wait Wut?! Then I used another app that ONLY ever showed reversed if you enabled them. then I tried another which was way too simplistic. Then I got this one and although the brief rune meanings are overly shallow and uninteresting (to me) the full text is insightful and reaches much deeper. The singing annoyed me at first so I was glad to turn it off. But then when I went to my other device where it was defaulted to on, i found it helps center me by blocking out other life noise, so I’m going with it again for now. 4 stars only because I have to wonder how scholarly the content is in light of the various types Celtic Germanic etc. surely someone can put it all together in a way that is at least consistent with academic study and history.
