Leave a Review ESV Bible
Accessible and convenient Bible all the time
I have been using some version of the ESV app for nearly 15 years. Originally , it came with the purchase of an ESV study Bible. I absolutely love it and improvements have come along the way! Especially when I was caring for babies, it was so convenient to do my Bible reading on a small, lit screen rather than balancing my Bible on my lap while I nursed a newborn or needing to turn on a light. Having it small also proved a blessing as I had toddlers in church. Now, I continue to love the reading plans that provide me with routine in my daily study, the audio Bible for on the go or for listening with my much older children over breakfast, and the study notes. I am disappointed that some functionality requires a subscription, and that is the only reason I give the app 4 stars instead of 5.Show lessIssues
I have used this app for a couple years, but it has recently had some issues.
First is it does not always go to the book/chapter you select from the drop down menu. For example: I selected Nahum 1, but it continued to take me to the book of Micah.
Next, it does not give you the history of what you have read. For a while it was showing me a very old history that would not update. After clearing it, there is now nothing shown even after going to several new passages. When it was working the history was a very helpful feature, like keeping your finger in a page to flip back and forth.
Lastly, if you add a note to a text you will not see any indication of that note when scrolling through the passage. Notes can be found under the Notes tab, but this is not helpful if you are rereading a passage that you have already written a note for that is now hidden! A while ago a note was indicated by the verse number being slightly shaded. That was very useful.
If these features were updated/restored I believe this app would once again be a favorite of mine!Show lessDeveloper Response
Thanks for reporting these issues. If you’re able to send us a "Feedback" email from the app by clicking on the ESV logo in the top left of the app? That will give us some info that should help us look into these issues for you. Please add "Requested via App review” so we can keep track of them.If something works, why do you have to change it or delete it?
I like a lot of people have used this app for years and would even pay for using it.
But like a lot of people, I agree if you are looking in one book in chapter and then you go to another why can’t you go back to the other one and not to the main menu to select the book and the verse all over again.
And the new one I found it’s really annoying if you want to highlight a verse or passage worse yet you have to click on one of the verses and then you have to select what color you want highlight in then you have to click the window to go away and then if you’re doing a whole passage, you have to do that for each first used to be able to just drag to select passage .
Probably no one else but may use, but I really do miss on the audio. You could slow down the narration. I love that I was sick for a long time and didn’t sleep well and I could turn that on and it was Isaiah or a couple of other books and I would just start from verse one and slow down the narration, turn the very low and usually put my phone on my chest and go back to sleep and then I woke many times during the night I could hear or tap on the phone to see what they passage they were reading and go back to it in the morning if I wanted to read that specific passage. It’s kind of the reading sometimes is faster than you would read it if you were reading your own Bible.Show lessDeveloper Response
