  • This is the best

This is the best world atlas that I have found. The major plusses are 1) best quality maps - better resolution than the National Geographic Atlas, and 2) the maps are resident on your I-pad which is great for world travelers not always in touch with the Internet. But there is one thing lacking: inability to show your present position as reported by an attached GPS receiver. I suggested this to the developer - we will see what happens.

  • School Super Tool!

I use this app extensively while teaching geography and world affairs. I wish we had more tools like this in the school.

Being able to hold a map of this quality and then zoom into it, seeing the countries which border each other, then facts about them while still viewing the map, is pure teaching magic! The interactive map engages the students to explore the globe and draws them in to learning more. I have never seen a teaching tool as good as this. Geography and world affairs is now their favorite part of the day (it was challenging) and their knowledge level has jumped forward.

  • Professional Maps

As a USAF pilot I love maps and am always on the lookout for good ones. This app contains the BEST MAPS on the iPad. Period.
The maps were drawn by GeoAtlas and are beautiful and professional-quality. They are up-to-date (including South Sudan) and they show all the geographic features and all but the smallest hamlets in every country and island. Also, they are all built-in.

In addition to the maps, the World Fact Book is built-in as well as Wikipedia for each country. These are great sources of info, possibly the best, for understanding the history and current situation in a country.

The interface is my favorite part of the app. You just touch a country to view it. The fact book is like a deck of cards, making it easy to find a section. Overall, this app is built to be used and I can tell a lot of care went into the design.

  • Super Atlas

One of the "check this out!" apps I show people who haven't used an iPad.

It's a first rate atlas, just like the one in our bookshelf, but with even better maps. Plus it has the CIA fact book for every country. The interface is cool (touch a country to see its map) and is easy to pick up and use, in fact I often open it while watching TV. You can't navigate a car or an airplane with the maps, but their authentic atlas look is the best for seeing where places are located.

    Highly recommended!

  • Great for traveling!!

This app is an essential part of my travel kit. I am a frequent flyer (finally hit 1M miles in January!) and I LOVE my iPad. This app and the WSJ are my two favorites on it. It's a great reference and I really enjoy reviewing where I've been on the maps and learning about places I'm traveling to. It simply has a TON of information and maps which make those long legs and layovers go by quickly. If you're looking for a travel companion, you really can't go wrong with this one. Just buy it!

  • The Best Atlas on the App Store!

I use this app constantly in my political science class as a teaching tool. When we are discussing a foreign country it helps to bring this up to give the students a frame of reference. The maps and data are the best I've seen and I've tried them all.

The maps are atlas quality (I'm sure I've seen them before, but not sure which printed atlas) and they work better than Google maps which have more detail but are really hard to use as a reference since large cities and small cities just mix together with the same small text. I see some negative reviews here about the maps, but I can't imagine what they are expecting. These maps are very good!

The CIA factbook and Wikipedia let us drill down into the details and are up to date. Since our textbook is a couple years old, I often go here to check information. I really like the data cards interface - very quick and easy to use. I was surprised when I accidentally touched on the Canary Islands, which isn't a country, and up came the info on it too! It's very comprehensive.

    Overall just an outstanding ap!!!

  • A real atlas

I agree with the what a lot of the other reviewers say: this is finally a real atlas, with well-labelled maps of each country showing key towns, cities, mountain ranges, and rivers, not requiring online access, in clear, zoomable vector graphics. Google Earth is great, but serves a different purpose: zoomed out views are often not as helpful as a true designed map (e.g., if you are reading War and Peace and want to follow Napolean's progress along the Danube). Google Earth names all cities in the same font and font size, with no (or not much) human judgment about which ones to label and where to put the label and at what size. Rivers are hard to see in a zoomed out view and often not labeled. The topography is not as easy to grasp as in a traditional cartographic color scheme. Also, Google Earth requires Internet access, which is fine mostly, but not if you are reading on a plane and want to look somthing up.

  • The Ultimate Rip Off

All the 5 star reviews for this app must be employees or close friends of the developer. How any one would rate this app along with National Geographic World Atlas is beyond my comprehension. Nat Geo goes down to neighbor levels in cities where this app gives you major interstates going through a city. How can an app costing this amount of money be so poorly designed. this app has a granularity of (I guess because they don't tell you as Nat Geo does) of maybe 100 miles. Nat Geo goes down to 2 miles.
This is the problem with the app store. Too many false ratings and we get burned.

  • Almost perfect.

This is a really useful atlas and world fact book. I find myself using it both for specific travel planning purposes as well as helping obtain background on breaking world events. I particularly enjoy the ability to use it when not connected to the internet. The huge download is worth it from that perspective. I would give it the full five stars but for one niggling problem. Almost every time I launch the app it misfires and returns to the iPad home screen. Second attempt to launch always works and it recovers nicely. I really enjoy this program and highly recommend it. Keep up the good work!

  • Nice maps!

I've been looking for an app with useful maps that did not require an internet connection....this has been a long time coming.
Finally, maps that have a level of detail that makes them useful!

I have one suggestion: It would be lovely to expand search so I could look up a city, lake, river etc and be directed to the right country. I imagine this would be a significant undertaking in terms of compiling and indexing the data...but it would be quite handy.

Thanks for doing a nice job. I'm sorry to hear that people have been submitting inappropriate reviews.
