Version History of Volleyball Ace Stats

9.83

October 16, 2023

This update includes updates for Apple compatibility and minor bug fixes. It also adds the option for teams to not switch sides each set during a match. This reflects changes to the rules of volleyball where teams changing sides during a match is optional.

9.82

September 11, 2022

Volleyball Ace version 9.82 is a revision which works around a MaxPreps problem. Until about six months ago, stats could be uploaded as .max files with descriptive file names, including date of match and team names. A change by MaxPreps caused uploads of stats to fail unless the upload file was named “import.txt”. The warning message sometimes says that the file does not exist. Sometimes it claims the file is invalid. The problem, however, is the name of the upload file. Version 9.82 of Volleyball Ace uses the shorter and less descriptive name. When MaxPreps resolves this file naming problem, we will release a subsequent update to restore the use of descriptive file names.

9.80

April 26, 2021

This version changes date and time handling to be compatible with newer iOS devices. It also updates some menu items which were truncated on iPhones.

9.71

October 31, 2019

Volleyball Ace version 9.71 has numerous new features and a number of usability improvements. Quick subs (main court screen) and bench stats have added player names to player numbers in drop-down lists. The libero player is also marked. Score adjustments are easier, especially for multiple points (When a set is to be started with the score 4-4 in some club tournaments). Tap on the score at the top of the page and a screen which allows multiple-point adjustments appears. Using consolidation, multiple sets can be emailed from the iPad/iPhone with the send email feature. Older versions allowed sending only one set at a time. The Rotate and Clear buttons on the Lineup/Substitutions screen are now always available. Previously, these buttons were hidden once a set was under way. During set play, the Clear button can be used to remove a player from the lineup without having to specify a replacement. (Before a set begins the Clear button removes all 6 lineup entries.) The new default for the main court screen and the lineup/subs screen is to show player name and number on the buttons. Previously, player numbers without names was the default display style. Editing and messages about illegal substitutions have been relaxed. Previously, Volleyball Ace was quite stubborn about allowing subs which it considered illegal. In this newer version, Volleyball Ace allows any substitutions and only warns about the first one which it believes is illegal. (As always, substitutions can be undone.)

9.68

September 21, 2018

This version fixes an issue with Consolidate when using team names which are more than 20 characters long. (Team name length was expanded to 30 characters in version 9.67 and we missed a revision in the Consolidate module). If your team name (or your opponent team name) is less than 21 characters long or if you are not using Consolidate, then it is not necessary to download this update.

9.67

September 12, 2018

This is a minor update which fixes two bugs. If you have a roster player numbered zero (only allowed at prep-NFHS level) and that player is the libero, there were issues manually placing the libero into the lineup. (Automatic libero replacements worked okay.) These zero libero replacement issues have been fixed. Also, if you use the Hudl tag file video export feature and some of the sets in a match begin in the morning (am) and others begin in the afternoon (pm) there was a spurious "Invalid times" message. This no longer occurs. If you have neither of these situations then this update can be ignored.

9.66

August 13, 2018

Volleyball Ace 9.66 has been changed to improve functionality on the iPhone X platform. Scores and other important information at the top of the screen has been moved down so that it is fully within the "safe area" of the iPhone X. Several screen issues on other iPhone platforms have also been resolved. Send options are now available with consolidated reports. This means that using the Consolidation in app purchase feature you can email multiple sets in a single email from the Stats/send screen with the data option. Note: Different email systems may have limits to how many files can be attached to an email. Thus, sending an entire season of stats - 200 to 300 sets - may not work, but it is possible to send 20 or more sets at a time. Toolbar menu items which had previously been truncated or replaced by the ellipsis ("...") have been fixed. Display of the selected liberos on the libero button on the Lineup/subs screen has also been fixed. Out of rotation messages have been improved and are more accurate. They can also be suppressed. Team names and player names have been expanded and names can be entered with first and last names as separate items. Handling of non-ASCII characters or extended characters (such as accented characters) in names and other text fields has also been improved.

9.64

January 4, 2018

Version 9.64 of Volleyball Ace fixes an issue with iPhones running iOS 11. It also displays our most current URL, www.taprecorder.com. If you are running Volleyball Ace 9.63 or earlier on an iPhone with iOS 11, you may have a problem tapping on entries on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. For new Volleyball Ace users, this caused you to get stuck on the Registration screen. For existing users, the problem occurred on the file manager (open) screen. This toolbar problem is fixed by version 9.64 of Volleyball Ace. Note that the problem resulted from changes to iOS made by Apple in its most recent releases. As a result of those changes, code in Volleyball Ace, which worked on previous versions of iOS, stopped working properly (on iPhones only). Apple helped us to resolve this problem by suggesting changes to our code to ensure iOS 11 screen compatibility. We apologize for any problems this may have caused and hope you have a great volleyball season.

9.63

November 8, 2017

Volleyball Ace version 9.63 has major improvements in the flow and reliability of player positions as they enter and leave the lineup. This has also improved the accuracy of remaining subs, especially for the opponent. Version 9.63 also fixes a minor issue with the use of player zero and MaxPreps export. Displays of saved set stat files in the Open Set Manager and Consolidation are now sorted in descending (date) order. Previously, devices running newer versions of iOS listed them in random order.

9.61

August 28, 2017

Volleyball Ace Version 9.61 fixes a problem with under counting the total number of set attempts in the MaxPreps email export. This has been fixed. No other changes were made to this version. Volleyball Ace Version 9.60 reflects new, lower prices on In App Purchase Features. Most significantly the cost of video time code recording has been reduced to $19.99. Other features, including Opponent Insight Reporting ($4.99), Multiple Rosters ($4.99) and Charting ($9.99) have also been reduced. Version 9.60 also fixes several minor issues in Volleyball Ace. First, a problem which caused Volleyball Ace to freeze when selecting "Change" and "About Volleyball Ace" was fixed. Second, the product registration screen added a "Not Now" button so the user can choose not to enter name and email address to use the product. This was changed to conform to Apple Guidelines for Data Collection and Storage.

  • Top stat software

I have used both Volleyball Ace and Tap Recorder for many years at multiple levels and it’s the easiest way one to train managers to help stat games and practice. Customer support has always been available and answer my questions with accuracy.
  • Lightweight and Agile

I’ve been using this app for years. It enables me to quickly generate stats based on the play of the game. Ports easily to MaxPreps and the consolidation feature allows me to quickly track trends within a match or across portions of our season. I don’t use all of the available features in the app, but those I use support my coaching well.

  • Volleyball Ace is a Winner!

Volleyball Ace knows the game better than most. In one of our recent games, the young score keepers had challenges running the score board. The Officials relied on me (really, Volleyball Ace) for the official score.

Also, the Support team is super responsive! Thanks!
