  • won't teach you to play, but very good implementation

If you're new to shogi, find a good introductory book (e.g. Trevor Leggett) or web tutorial first. But this lets you play the game against the computer at different difficulty levels, or another human (app can act just as a shogi board for two players, or for experimenting with different openings. ) If you like chess, you'll either love (or hate!) shogi.

    Can't move a piece?
  • A tool for shogi

I am fairly new to shogi and I have bought about three different shogi games on the iPad. This has the hardest AI I have come across. That is a good thing. Since the game is so much better than I am I have found this app to be more of a tool. You can save games, create tsume problems, watch professional games if you find the score on the net or load it from the server this game connects to. You can also change from human to computer at any time which is handy to se what the AI would do in a given situation.

Some issues are present: When trying to start games that have been edited in arranged mode the game glitches, moving pieces that are not there or taking it's own pieces. This seems to happen at end game scenarios where one side has only a few moves. Also there are some typos such as balck or etiding.

This game is good for a beginner because it also seems to know jouseki and it rates your moves determining who has advantage. Almost perfect. Worth it.
