  • Suggestion for update

Print the names of items on the pieces in the Draw view
Allow rotation and resizing of Draw view

Otherwise, it works well. I don't understand the "method" choices, though.

    Some documentation would help.

  • Thanks!

Thanks for the email bug fix! There have been several updates since my original poor review over a year ago. I have been using this program a lot and have been very satisfied! Very intuitive program. Customer service is great too. I would love to see an option to save as PDF so I could keep the file in my iBooks and maybe a tutorial about the pros and cons of the different cut patterns. Other than that I love using this program. -I am a General Contractor and Furniture/Cabinet maker.

  • Latest version is a major improvement

I'm a carpenter and frequently want to get the most cuts out of a piece of plywood as possible, with the least amount of waste. This app helps you make your cuts to maximize yield and minimize waste, and it does a passable job of it.
Previous versions were woefully inadequate, with many bugs and shortcomings. I'm happy to say that the latest version fixes the worst of the problems. The result is an app l have actually been using in the shop.
Let's look at the improvements. First, the app no longer rounds off your measurements. If you input 2.875 -- and those of us forced to use inches enter ridiculous measurements like this all the time -- the app no longer turns it into 2.87. It leaves your measurements just as you entered them, and that's good.
Second, the app now lets your pieces overflow onto more than one sheet of material. So if your cuts don't fit on the first sheet, the app automatically adds enough sheets to fit, a big improvement.
And you can specify different sheet sizes for different jobs, which is a nice touch.
Third, the diagrams have gotten much better. The type size for the dimensions is now large enough that you can actually read it.
A few problems remain. The app still gives you 7 different options for cutting the sheet down, labelled, confusingly, "Meth. W," "Meth. E," etc., with no clue what these stand for. Switching between the different cutting methods is cumbersome and counterintuifive. And many times, the different options aren't different at all; they might tell you to cut down the sheet the exact same way. So why offer 7 options in those cases when they're all the same? A related problem: sometimes one of the options gives you substantially better yield than the others, but you need to (annoyingly) page through all 7 options to sniff it out. Why doesn't the app show the best method first, and simply discard the others? Again, the app makes you jump through hoops that aren't necessary, and waste your time doing so. The app should be saving your time, not wasting it.
Also, it's a bit difficult to find the option pane for specifying board size and kerf width. It's the arrow next to the job name -- it isn't immediately obvious that clicking the arrow is *different* from clicking the job name. That could be made clearer.
But setting those issues aside, this is now a useful app. It can definitely use some tweaks for user-friendliness. I suspect that after a few more versions for a little more polish, this will be an app that I'll enjoy using every day.

  • J fitter

I'm looking for the next upgrade. The current version will only let you layout one sheet.....yep that's it 1. Also you can't read the numbers for cutting material. I'm looking forward to giving a better review but at this time I can only say this app is a good idea not a good product.
