Excellent program helped me a lot to understand the language

Good but needs an update

It's very good at its simple but very helpful primary function, which is to help you recognise the different tones in Mandarin. However the app is very dated and would benefit from an update.

It needs:
• support for multitasking
• support for iPhone 5 display size
• progress tracking

Love it

Very nice app for training pinyin.

The only thing I would improve is an option to stop after incorrectly answered questions so that you can repeatedly play back both the incorrect and correct answers for comparison before proceeding.

Good, but...

I use this on the iPad mini and like it a lot. But I'm only giving it 3 stars for this reason: at least one word in the app has the wrong tones (shuǐguǒ) and will penalize you for answering correctly. The 'draw the tone' mode doesn't work at all and can't recognize what you draw. Try harder, people...

Free version useless

You will need to upgrade (£1.99) to get anything useful from this app. Had 15 questions then was told I needed to upgrade to continue playing! Annoying!

Missing some key features/options

I'd like to have an option to practice multi-syllables i.e. words with 3 or 4 syllables. Also, the possibility to define custom list of words to review as only I know which words (pinyin) i have pbs to pronounce, recognize sounds, etc
In addition, we should have an option on settings to display Chinese characters while reviewing pinyin tones game (useful for adv. beginners and intermediate students)
3 stars so far, it could be improved. Please let us know what are new features coming up ...

Great for the deaf

There's no sound on my version. Completely hopeless!

Super app

The best I can find to test my students about their Pinyin skills! Thank you.

An excellent assistant to learn the 5 tones in written form

I've been learning to write in pinyin, it was hard to learn how to work out the 5 tones in mandarin! This is an excellent assistant to train you to work out which tones are what. At first I didn't think it was important, but in practice unless you know which tone is which in pinyin, it's very difficult to work out the pronunciation. Worth getting.

Mixed

Either I am very bad at hearing tones or the sound is not very clear! Good idea thou but could have more features like once u see an answer you should be able to relisten to it rather than going straight onto the next one. Also would be good if it told you what te word was in English so you can learn that at the same time
