I like it, but would love to see more!

I have logged a couple hours in this app. I have really enjoyed it and paid the 99 cents for the extra feature. I know it’s a small team who built this and I didn’t mind shelling out the extra dollar. The running count “speed counting” drill is great! I would love to see more of this kind of stuff in the app. For the basic “Training” drill I would like to be able to check the running count. Learning how to count cards, I forget the running count a lot. And that makes it impossible to get a true count. A more experienced player may not have these issues. But a newbie like me would really benefit from an optional feature that would provide a running count in basic training. It would also be cool to have more data after each shoe. Currently it just shuffles at the end of the shoe. I think it would be helpful to see some analytics of my play. Overall, this app does what it says it does. It’s a great blackjack app in general. And you don’t have to suffer through ads like other apps. You can change the deck count and I enjoy that. It feels a lot more genuine to play than any other BJ on the App Store. I would recommend to anyone looking to understand the game of 21 at a deeper level. Or a casual player who wants to escape the ads and learn simple basic strategy.

Thanks so much for all the kinds words and feedback! We're in the midst of updating the app currently and I'm going to relay your feedback over to our dev guys and see if it would be possible to make the running count more readily available.

Learning basic strategy

Great teaching tool

Could be 5 Stars

This app is great. Blackjack Apprenticeship has a great reputation and the app is simple and easy to use and understand I’d like to see **EDIT** two improvements though - First, Be able to play 1 or 2 Hands / Sim up to 4 to 5 more for more of a real life counting experience in both Drill and Speed Counting Modes, and Second, customize your bankroll to the users desired amount. Other than that, for a one time $5 + $1 charge you can’t go wrong with the app Next stop, cashiers cage

Thanks for the kind words and feedback! We're actively updating the app right now and hope to have the new version rolled out before the end of the year. It may not have all of these updates but I've shared the feedback with our dev guys to see what can be included.

Pretty good but not as great as it could be

The interface and user experience is good but it needs a setting to practice specific subsets of basic strategy. There is wayyyy to much variation for a beginner.

You need a setting where the “deck” constantly forces the same hand with a different dealer up-card to practice what to do with a hard 12 and dealer is showing *whatever* and that’s how to memorize what to do. And then when I start getting those right most of the time I can select something different like hard 13 or whatever and practice what to do with different dealer up cards, etc.

Then I can turn more and more of these on until it eventually gets to where the app currently is, practice real black jack with a normal deck and now that I have the basic strategy memorized I can actually try to apply it.

Thanks for the great feedback! We do have more options in our full member's Training Suite but that's an aspect we haven't created before. I'll send it over to our dev guys and see if it's possible to create a system like that in the next update.

Glitching

Just letting you know that I can now beat the app anytime I want by using a completely bogus strategy and flat betting, because of it’s predictive behavior. You can try to explain it away with variance, but when I don’t use the bogus strategy it performs over 2 standard deviation to the negative in a couple shoes minimum after a few rounds of play. I can assure you this is the case and very provable. I am bringing it to your attention because I truly enjoyed and was training from the app for the first few months. Something has changed. I have well over 250 hours on this app. PLease take my and tomato’s review seriously and look into so I can keep training properly

Thanks for taking the time to share! You can see in the app store there has been no update to the app in over a year, you're experiencing more variance than you'd have expected which is not uncommon, both training apps and in real life play. During our careers we've had and witnessed 200+ hour downswings in casinos also, which is brutal but part of the game. It definitely tests mental resolve. There will be updates later this year to the app, but not related to randomization, to bring the design up a few levels and add some extra functionality users have asked for.

Annoying tips

At first I thought the tips were cool… until I started to not follow them and I was still winning while it racked up a counter of how many incorrect moves I did meanwhile any time I thought oh maybe they’re right I’ll go back and fix it I’d end up losing 8 times out of 10 on moves I would’ve won on that were “incorrect” and “fixed” just give recommendations don’t say incorrect every time somebody is winning or else you throw off the game completely being warned I’m doing something wrong and then losing because I hit a “fix” button

I also need to add that it is not a normal thing for a dealer to hit 21, 8 times in a row and then 20 every other deal for 20 deals straight, got 4 blackjacks pushed as if that’s realistic, also saw my first 4 way ace split, I know it’s coded for real casino but these results have never been more far off, on a current 7 night win streak in person along with around 4 more wins on another app going for doubles and triples yet I can’t even reach double on this app and end up going broke every single time

Short term variance isn't an issue that has any relevance in card counting, we're playing the long term using the mathematically correct moves. Given that the casino edge is only around .5% with perfect basic strategy, and your edge is likely ~5% counting perfectly you can win plenty of times doing the wrong thing and lose plenty of times doing the right thing. Tips are providing the correct choice to make mathematically. The goal of card counters is to play for the long term where the equity created by playing correctly translates to profit.

You should be able to choose wich hands you want to be played specifically

Otherwise a little costly

Great App

I love this app! I have put 2000 rounds in so far and my bank roll speaks for itself, I have learned the basic strategy very quickly thanks to the errors you get when you make a mistake. There are a few things that I’ve noticed through playing that could been tweaked/adjusted. Sometimes it will tell you strategy error when you shouldn’t do something however when you correct it, you end up losing the hand when what you would’ve done in the first place would’ve made you win the hand. Sure the odds are probably not in my favor by going the route I anticipated, however knowing I would’ve won by not listening and just doing what I wanted to do, gets annoying. Sometimes it will ask me to take say “no” to insurance just for them to flip BJ when I select insurance due to the running count. I might just be confused on that genre though. I also wish they had a free play mode to where it wouldn’t pop up the errors so that you can actually see how you are doing. Maybe a win/loss status as well so you can actually see your progress through learning. It’s a basic app that could use an upgrade on some aspects of the game. I feel a lot more confident in my game play though and will be continuing my training. 10/10 recommended!

We're glad it's helped with your game! You're correct that making the right moves will not always win the hand, we're training and playing for long term success, not the success of each hand or session. Card counting involves losing a lot of hands, if you have a 5% edge you're going to lose 45% of the time, however that equity can turn into massive profits over time for serious players.

Hole card

Australian casinos don’t deal a hole card - would be good to see this as a setting in the app.

Love the App, can we get a CSM option?

I know it’s a counting app, but I don’t have any options of casinos at the low end (Aus) but I like to use the app for the basic strategy component. If I could turn an option on to have a continuous shuffle going, the results would be more reflective of reality in Tasmania. Cheers.
