Stories are great app completely sucks
I purchased a subscription thru the App store and the app is so buggy. Even though I pay monthly the app often tells me that I don't have a subscription. I try saving a story I am told to sign in and then it tells me I don't have a subscription. Reloading the app and contacting the publisher is of no help. Why can't the app connect into your system?

I love The Atlantic, but…
This app performance is abysmal. However ads load in completely jams up the performance and freezes up/ crashes the app. I read The Atlantic Daily so it’s super disappointing to have my reading interrupted by having to relaunch the app on nearly every other article I read. I feel like it uses more RAM on loading ads than loading articles.

Adequate experience; chronic login issues
While the app hasn’t received any notable updates in years, the general experience, while basic, is adequate: well-designed reading experience, functional search and access to most section content.
Areas for improvement: Ads are more prominent and disruptive than competitors and of low quality (with an apparent infinite amount to display as article length increases); the home tab feels stale and outdated (and editor’s picks are often pushed out by an ad); articles saved on web may appear in Saved but not the other way around; no support for dark mode; other media types such as podcasts and newsletters are buried in the section list; no offline content or automatic downloads.
The biggest issue is authentication. The app seems incapable of storing login credentials for more than a day, so anytime I open the app to read an article, I have to log in again. This isn’t a complaint about the app and website synchronizing my login, or any nuances of Safari web views — this is a fundamental issue with the app. As such it puts me off from ever seriously using the app. The website is the only viable alternative (apart from print) for subscribers, but with the website focusing on daily content the app is missing a trick to provide a curated and focused content experience.

Screen goes blank while reading
The most recent version seems to have introduced a new bug.
I have noticed that the screen will go blank upon reaching a certain point in an article. The spot where it goes blank will vary from article to article but it’s always the same for a given article. Some articles, on the other hand, give no problem.
I don’t know if it’s because of an approaching ad or something else. Sometimes it’s so bad that the only fix is to abandon the app and read the article via a web browser.
I have also seen it on the iPad version.

Why do I have to log in every time I use the app?
Pretty good app but every time I use it I have to log in. Other magazine apps (eg The Economist) don’t do this.
Also, why doesn’t it keep my place where I have been reading?

Their AI doesn’t know me any more but takes my money
AI IS INDIFFERENT TO HUMANS! I notice frequently that when you sort rating by “most recent” that preciously well rated apps are getting low ratings. What has changed recently? They’re all using AI to mange subscriptions and app design thus rendering both inconvenient and inefficient. After decades of reading The Atlantic, today it won’t find my paid subscription with Apple. So I reluctantly cancelled. Attempts to solve this sent me into the usual circular AI forest where my queries are not acceptable to them. Such a waste of time AI causes. I call AI artificial indifference.

REVISION: wrote to Atlantic and they did respond(I m not sure if it was a person. But before rambling thru the steps, I removed the app from my iPad and reinstalled AND IT WORKED! Should have tried that instead of wasting an hour trying other ways.
I still hold to what I said above.

Ads everywhere
I can’t believe a paid news subscription still includes AdSense ads. What a horrible impact on user experience for a few extra cents per month in revenue. Just increase the subscription price and get rid of them. Amazing journalism ruined by penny grabbing.
App not fit for purpose
I have to find the interesting articles from Apple News that I want to read in the Atlantic. I cannot seem to find what I want through this app.
App only partly downloading stories
I’ve been a subscriber for years and always used the app to read it. Lately, however, the app only downloads the first few paragraphs of each story. I can read the whole article if I go in via the website and my subscription is current. This problem is amplified by The Atlantic having absolutely no place where I can ask them how to fix it. The Help Centre does not cover this problem and there is no place to override the FAQ. Yes, I have deleted and reinstalled the app. 😫😫

Shortened articles?
In the past couple of days, the articles in the app have been shrinking to just a couple of paragraphs, leaving the content hanging. I’m paying for a full annual subscription through Apple, really enjoy the magazine but this is a brand new phenomenon and seems to be pervasive, so I’m wondering if there’s a glitch in the uploads.
