No longer useful

Used to be the best. Now it is not really usable on MacOS.

It doesn't do anything like attempting to probe/ping every IP, instead it relies on reading the OS arp table to find the IP addresses. This is fast, but unfortunately, unless your device has had reason to contact all the devices on your network, it is an incomplete list.

I used to recommend this to everyone. Now on the search for one that actually works...

works well

I use this as my goto scanner for the last 4 years on many networks. reliable doesn't crash worth it

Works fine but very hard on resources

Using this on an older MacBook Pro but its struggling - fan on high and task monitor is showing the cpu at 181% just for IP Scanner Ultra -

Seems rather intense for something the is just running probes -

Features are nice and its an easy piece of software to use

Simple and easy to use

Have used the tool for years now - it is my goto Mac OS tool for device discovery on a network.

Functional

Available on several platforms and works

good but..

could do with a function to check for duplicate IP's

Good but stalls

I have been using this app for a while. In the begining it would not appear as if it was unresponsive. REcent versions as the app refreshes the IP addresses it appears the app stalls.

Slowest scanning of ports ever

Well; I can tell you that it's a great app unless you want to not have the most intensive port scan of an IP performed. Like the MOST intensive ever.

You may as well just download nmap and run it from terminal if you want to know what ports are open.

This app's ability to port scan reminds me of the Qualys/Nessus applications from around a decade ago.

Truly. Not bad for monitoring your network and various subnets. But wow. Sometimes just dropping to a terminal with an app (yes; this is actaully nmap) will do a WAAAAY better job.

Not worth the money IMHO.

Fling/fring (yes i also wasted £££ on it and it's that memorable like this one is) would be better for you - there is a read.me on the GIT repository.

If you don't know what that all is; you will have digested all of it's content and how it works (both of them probably) before this scan completes of my /24 subnet.

God only knows how long a /8 subnet would take.

Wow.

Few bugs; tech support inexistent!!

I would give this five stars but tech support is inexistant. Writing to the dev team is like writing to nobody, I never got an answer whatsoever. In terms of the app itself, bear in mind that device names do not sync via iCloud, so if you plan in installing it in more than one machine forget about it. App sometimes is buggy in the sense that it does not recognize all devices in the first scan - you will need to scan the network two to three times to make sure you have a full picture. Also, custom names do not appear at once, again you will need to scan the network two to three times before the app can display devices with their custom names. Finally, it keep crashing and becomes slow and unresponsive on macOS 13.5. This app used to work well before versions changed and macOS evolved.

Response from developer

Extremely sorry you had this experience. We are not sure why your emails didn't get answered as we monitor religiously and we actually pride ourselves in handling tech support personally, NOT using AI bots as many have started to deploy. With the move to MacOS 13.5.x, underlying changes to the operating system did lead to issues with iCloud sync and responsiveness under heavy loads (such as initial scans with many dns lookups and port scans), that we believe have been solved in IP Scanner versions 5.14 and above. Must Have

If you are beginning to dabble in the IoT world, this is a must have for you. New devices attach to your network and grab a DHCP address, but which one. This tool makes it easy to find new devices and rogue devices that have hopped onto your wifi somehow.
