  • Generally ok

    A few issues:

Sliders for sizes should default to integer steps. Sliders for CFM should default to 100 cfm steps above 2000 and 25 below.

SD7-3 returns 0 pressure drop regardless of inputs. Oops.
  • Crashes when trying to send a report

The app used to work well. Today, when trying to send a report, the app crashes every time.
  • Waste

    Not worth the cost.
  • Good but not great

The duct database program is a nice start to what could be an incredibly powerful tool. Compared to the full cost of getting the fitting database on a CD from ASHRAE, this is a steal!

There are some occasional crash issues. I'm guessing there needs to be some additional error catching for when you are modifying parameters that may be out of bounds.

There are three problems I have with this program at this point that need to be addressed before I can give the program a full 5 stars. I can see this app being useful in a field setting when analyzing existing conditions. Coming from an engineering and design standpoint, however, there are several improvements that need to be made.

First, it is a little difficult to navigate through the different fittings. The search feature is nice. What would be great is if you could browse through the different fittings and when tapping on a fitting you can see the diagram of the fitting. As it is, it is difficult to tell what the fitting is exactly.

Second, as it is, all fittings are present in each project. This should be changed so that you pick a fitting and insert it into your project. This way it is easy to navigate through the fittings you have modified for the particular project you are working on. The app should also allow multiple instances of each fitting in each project. That way you can check multiple instances of fittings when doing design work.

Third, adjusting values utilizing the sliders (on the iPad at least) is incredibly sensitive. I have to touch the sliders perfectly to make them work. Otherwise the screen wants to slide over to the diagram panel.

    Some other thoughts and suggestions:
    - Provide for setting project level airflow and duct dimensions. Each fitting added to the project would then default to these settings and then can be altered as needed.
    - Show a project summary table listing fittings with velocities, Pv, Co, and pressure loss values.
    - Add straight ductwork calculation (easy enough, equations are all in the handbook)
    - Add a button to swap the height and width values.

  • Engineer

This expensive app is a great idea that was executed horribly. The program crashes often on certain fittings - so much so that I don't use it anymore.
  • Useful app with lots of data

This is a very useful app with lots of coefficient data for almost all of the ASHRAE fittings (230+). I noticed that a couple are missing, but I did talk w/Carmel and they are releasing an update in January 2012 that will include all the remaining fittings, including the ED5's and more.

I love that I can email the fitting data with picture. Very handy. Look forward to the newest update soon.

  • Need to add fittings

This app would be worth the money if they would follow-through and add more fittings.
  • No updates...

Still waiting to see these monthly updates with the rest of the missing fittings.
  • Need to deliver on promise

The developers of this app indicated they would be issuing updates monthly adding additional fittings. There hasn't been an update since March. I bought this app in part because of that stated commitment. The app itself works well enough. It is just missing a lot of fittings, which makes its limited in a manner that basically makes it useless to me. When they actually deliver on what they committed to do, I will upgrade my review.

  • Great app

I've been using the DFDB desktop app for years and it's been a great tool. Now, this DFDB mobile app allows me to do quick fitting pressure loss calcs out in the field, and then email the results back to the office for further analysis. It's amazing that the entire database of 200 or so fittings is in this little app.

    Great job!
