All Versions of Halcyon Calc Lite

4.2.9

May 2, 2023

Fix COMB and PERM to correctly return one when doing combinations or permutations in groups of zero.
More

4.2.8

March 17, 2023

Fixes the order of arguments restored by the LAST command with a series of multi-argument operations. Prior to this, some operations would restore their arguments in reverse order. Now, they should all restore their arguments correctly.
More

4.2.7

December 5, 2022

Fix a bug where the display panel may not be visible on relaunch on an iPad.
More

4.2.6

May 21, 2022

Fixed a bug to add a space after the local variables arrow when typed in programming mode. This reduces the chance of a syntax error when specifying the arguments to your program.
More

4.2.5

April 9, 2022

This version fixes a bug due to rounding errors with the HMS+ and HMS- operations. Previously, the calculator may give a result like "5 minutes and 60 seconds" depending on the inputs. Not it will correctly report "6 minutes and 0 seconds".

4.2.4

January 24, 2022

Just some minor fixes.

4.2.3

April 12, 2021

This update fixes problems with CHS when editing more complex entries like an expression or a program. Where it tended to just append a minus sign at the end of the expression/program, it should now correctly negate a number under the cursor within a larger expression or program.

4.2.2

March 10, 2021

This update addresses some bugs: - The UTPN operation was incorrectly treating the variance as an integer. In prior releases, if you had a non-integral variance, then UTPN would provide a wrong result. That is fixed in this update. - The caps lock key should work correctly now if using a hardware keyboard with the app. - Error messages now display with the correct text colour when using dark mode. - Other minor UI fixes.

4.2.1

September 18, 2020

Fix a problem with labels on buttons on the iPad being laid out wrong after an orientation change under iOS 14. Also some minor changes to the UI appearance.

4.2

May 27, 2020

Lots of small improvements and bug fixes: - Errors are displayed at the top of the calculator display instead of in a modal alert in almost all cases. - Long press on most buttons will perform a red shift. This is especially useful on an iPhone when looking at the left panel of buttons when the red shift button isn't handy. In previous versions, this was triggered with a 3D Touch. Now, either a long press or 3D Touch will trigger a red shift. - Fix a crash that could happen if you try to use the solver on an expression which is self referential. In other words, if the expression directly or indirectly contains a symbol that leads back to the same expression. - Fix a crash that could happen if you write a program which recurses infinitely. Now, when 250 levels of recursion has occurred, an error will be raised and the program will stop execution without crashing the calculator. - If the calculator crashes when doing a plot, it will detect that happened on restart and will not try to plot the expression again. In prior releases, this would cause the app to crash on every relaunch and the only solution was to delete and re-install the app. That should not be required if a crashing bug happens in your plot. - Fix a bug with the GET and GETI operations which could lead to a raw symbol being pushed onto the stack. Those operations now push an expression.

Reviews of Halcyon Calc Lite

  • I had the hp28s. This is a good replica

Pros: look and acts like the hp 28s.
Cons: free version is too locked down to tell how well it works. I would have like to tried out other features, but that requires at least 1 upgrade possibly more. I could not tell for sure. I would pass on this one since I cannot tell how well it will work.

    Developer Response

I appreciate the feedback and I am sorry you found the free version locked down. But I am wondering if perhaps there is a different problem. The free version is fully featured and I believe is quite functional without purchasing extra features. There are in-app purchases which unlock the following: - A larger display which also removes in-app advertisement banners - Unit conversion so you can convert feet to meters or any number of other units, including units you define yourself. - Programming support so you can create your own custom actions and operations. - The ability to create directories to store your own symbols in a hierarchical tree. Those are the only restrictions in the free version. You can do basic calculations with real numbers, integers, complex numbers, vectors and matrices. You can enter equations, plot them, perform calculus on them, evaluate them for various values of variables. Perhaps you were having a technical issue with the app which was preventing it from working for you and I am more than happy to work with you on that and help you to resolve it.
  • HP 28S Calculator Replica

Just like the last reviewer, I had a HP 28S since 1989. It bit the dust last year. This is an exact replica! If you do not understand (RPN - Reverse Polish Notation) you will be confused like Phat Dude. Take some time to learn RPN, you will find it straight forward and easy to use.
  • Love the HP 28S

I've used my HP 28S for three decades. I'm thrilled to find an app that emulates this classic scientific calculator. I haven't used the app much yet, but I'm looking forward to testing its features.
