IMPORTANT: Please update your App Store reviews! Accurate ratings keep upgrades coming. AMAZING 2.0 RELEASE COMING SOON: see http://word-in-the-hand.com/sneak-preview for Sneak Preview! NEWS FLASH: We are nearing completion of a massive 2.0 upgrade to your dictionary app that has been more than two years in the making. This upcoming free 2.0 upgrade will include thousands of new Thai words suggested by users, thousands of complete, ready-to-use customizable phrases divided into 200+ practical categories like "Hotel," "Ordering Food," "Renting a Place," and "Price Haggling," a Favorites feature that lets you save and organize words and phrases you are learning, full-text search that lets you find words in the middle of phrases, and a complete rewrite of the internals of the app that will allow us to issue more frequent cross-platform upgrades in the future. Our first step will be to release a standalone phrasebook-only app, then fold all of its features and vocabulary into your dictionary app as a free 2.0 upgrade. We anticipate the 2.0 major update will support all iOS devices from iOS 5 onward (the minor 1.8 update supports only iOS 6 onward because it addresses issues on iPhone 5/6/6+). Version 1.8 brings us up to date with iOS 8 and iPhone 5/6/6+: - restores full access to major functionality taken away by Apple's iOS 8.x update: "Find Words Inside," "Real-World Fonts," "Explain Spelling," "Google Thai Word," and "Clear History," as well as the Paiboon Thai Script and Thai Sound custom keyboards. - supports full-screen operation on iPhone 5/6/6+ - sports a new iOS 7/8 visual style - supports the full set of Thai fonts on all iOS versions (see app Settings screen) - fixes an app hang that some customers saw when the status bar switched to double height: for example, using the app while having a phone call on hold, while recording audio with Voice Memos, and in some cases using Personal Hotspot (tethering) - fixes a rare app hang that sometimes happened when using the triple-tap zoom accessibility feature and possibly other multitouch gestures involving more than two fingers Version 1.8 has the same Thai vocabulary and app features as version 1.6.

IMPORTANT: If you can avoid it, do not upgrade to iOS 8.0 yet! For full details and fix status, visit word-in-the-hand.com NOTE: iOS 7 users should choose an alternate Thai font in our app's Settings screen. Version 1.6 delivers another massive increase in the number of dictionary entries from 100,000+ to 150,000+ bold entries (from 134,000+ to 220,000+ translations), plus another 28,000+ entries (not counted above) containing the names of cities, subdistricts, districts, and provinces of Thailand. This is just another step in Paiboon Publishing's ongoing, multi-year dictionary production project, and you are able to enjoy the fruits of this labor as it progresses. In this release, we added words in all letters of the Thai and English alphabets, but in particular we filled out thousands of words in the English letters D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N, O, P, and R as the second phase of our dictionary expansion begun in late 2010. Now all letters of the English alphabet are equally detailed. Stay tuned for additional releases in the future which add even more entries to all sections. As always, there is a high-quality sound recording of a native Thai speaker for every single Thai word in the dictionary. In addition to the huge increase in entries: - We now show playback icons right inline with each Thai word, so you can hear any Thai word with just one easy touch. If you prefer to fit more information on-screen, you can enable and disable the speaker icons in the Settings tab. - We added a handy, unified "Quick Click Chart" in our Help section on "Reading and Writing" that shows all Thai consonants and vowels at once on your screen (designed for iPad), allowing you to click to hear each one or to go to its details in the relevant section. - We made a large number of improvements to the Help, including a lot more sound recordings for sample phrases, more sample words, and playback icons in our charts of Thai vowels.

Version 1.4 adds a handy quick-touch index to the top of the Consonants and Vowels pages of our built-in, extensive introduction to reading and writing Thai, so you can see each consonant/vowel on the screen at once and touch it to jump to detailed information. Touch the status bar at the top of the screen to return to the top of the page. Version 1.4 also adds some more help detail about how your previous locations are labeled in the History screen. Version 1.4 also fixes a rare app exit problem that sometimes occurs when you go to the Settings screen to change your main Thai Sound Pronunciation Guide System, and then you go to the History screen and click "Clear History." Version 1.4 has the same 100,000+ dictionary entries as version 1.3.

Easily scroll through multiple, complete definitions on the screen at once. Customize layout. == A Dictionary Crafted for Those Learning Thai Unlike typical dictionaries based on low-quality, free internet data meant for Thai natives, our superb dictionary entries are hand-crafted by Paiboon Publishing with your needs in mind: if you're not familiar with the Thai alphabet, you can even look up Thai words by their sound using an easy-to-read pronunciation guide system (12 popular systems are supported). Hear somebody say "sa nuk?" Type "sa nuk" to find out what it means. All Thai words in every section are written using both Thai Script and your chosen pronunciation guide system(s). Unlike dictionaries meant for Thais, we clarify critical shades of Thai word meaning and formality using English explanations, we list crucial Thai classifiers for more than 60,000 noun entries, and we even notate syllable stress. == Built-In Phrasebook Beginner or advanced, communicate in Thai easily! 12,000+ phrasebook entries in 300+ categories like “Language Difficulties,” “Hotel,” “Renting a Place,” “Food/Drink,” “Price Haggling,” “Transportation,” “Health,” “Shopping,” “Sightseeing,” “Love/Romance/Sex” and even “Swearing/Insults.” Two-way conversational format helps both of you communicate. == Introduction to Thai Included More than just a dictionary, our software includes a comprehensive, interactive introduction to the Thai language, including a "Speaking and Understanding" section with clickable sounds and detailed grammar coverage, and a "Reading and Writing" section with all the consonants and vowels in multiple, real-world fonts. == Unique Thai Learning Tools This app is loaded with amazing, industry-first Thai learning tools. You can touch any word to find out which component Thai words it's made from: a great way to learn new words quickly. You can see any Thai word written in multiple real-word fonts you are likely to see on signs and menus. You can touch any Thai word to see a detailed interactive breakdown of how to pronounce each syllable (with clickable sounds that let you compare nearby sounds) or see a detailed visual explanation of its Thai spelling—indispensable for learning how to read and write Thai. Nothing like this has ever appeared in any dictionary software on any platform. == Buy ThaiDict Now! Don't go another day without this indispensable tool! • This app nails it

My wife and I will travel to remote parts of Thailand later this year. We wanted to supplement in person lessons to practice Thai when we’re out and about to accelerate our learning. This app is just perfect to practice. We are quickly able to find the right words, phrases, and hear the pronunciations. Since Thai is a tonal language, pronounciation isn’t for showing off; it’s a necessity to convey your message. This app is a great job by the app makers. Many thanks! Khop kun khráp!!

  • Powerfull App

This app while more updates would be appreciated , never the less it is a powerful app,
take the time to go through all the options which has more than many of it’s competitors. As a day today app for Thai language it’s an app I depend on!
  • Something to lean on

I now have time to dedicate to my learning Thai and have greater understanding and involvement in conversation with my wife and family - this is just one of the tools I am using but find it very helpful not just for me to speak Thai but also when Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in written form so that I can refer to English and Thai at the same time which will enhance any student/teacher clarification. HOWEVER I am only just starting my Thai language journey - but like the way that this allows me to formulate and alter specific sentences. I like it
